I bet this will make a bunch of twats confusingly angry.

I’m looking forward to this being well received everywhere across the media

    3. qwerty_1965 on

I can hear a Torygraph opinion column being thrashed out on a Remington.

    4. Crumpetlust on

I’m not sure what the man has actually done to deserve the award?

    5. Ok-Listen-9533 on

How he be ser as the honour was given by a pretend king.

    6. Convincing_Tree on

All of a sudden lefties are now big monarchist lol.

Either way, time for this undemocratic and archaic joke of a system to be pensioned off. Modern Republic now.

    7. MotorUpset5799 on

Well deserved, all crime has been coming down in the capital during his premiership.

      Truly represents all Londoners

Edit: I was being sarcastic guys XD

    8. Curious_Orange8592 on

I’m not going to comment on whether he deserves it or not but, as an alleged socialist, fuck him for accepting it

    9. I’m sure social media will be constructive and level headed with their discussions about this

    10. RawDogger100 on

Anyone have a constructive argument that London is better as result of his tenure?

    11. blob8543 on

I fully support Khan but I’m not sure politicians should be getting knighthoods simply for doing their job, even if they do it well as I think it’s the case here.

    12. terryjuicelawson on

Like him or not, get elected multiple times as the mayor of a city and it seems like an automatic knighthood that would go unquestioned if we looked back at historical figures. That should be that really. Hilarious that the Tories are criticising this.

    13. CurtisInCamden on

I think he’s a mostly good mayor, he’s done well on public transport (despite Covid & WFH financial pressures), pretty good on housing. My only criticism is crime & policing, which is currently the worst I’ve ever known it to be in London in my 3 decades living here.

Once again, I am disappointed that someone has been named as a knight without charging on horseback at a *single* Frenchman.

Does he even have a lance?

    15. Sir_Henry_Deadman on

Oh to be on a reform party Facebook group right about now

    16. No-Beyond-4054 on

Leftists out to defend this, claiming he’s a superb Mayor despite rising crime and London turning more lawless every day. You can’t ask why he deserves it either, because the apologists will ask if you had the same questions for a white non-muslim person knighted.

    17. SebastianHaff17 on

Pedant question: wouldn’t knighting you make you a sir? i.e. a sir would not be knighted.

    18. complexpug on

How to be rewarded for complete failure

I guess it’s sir citizen khan now

    19. LickMyOrc on

Knighthoods are like the Hollywood walk of fame stars nowadays. Not special anymore.

    20. Additional_Week_3980 on

He did as he was told. He threw the election for the king. Of course he is rewarded. Never use the stick without gifting the carrot afterwards, otherwise people might suspect the existence of the stick.

    21. seeksadvic3 on

Genuine question from a curiosity pov: What exactly has he done to be worthy of all these awards, accommodations and trophy’s?

It just seems like he’s getting this on merit because a minority ethnic mayor got elected 3 times by a majority – minority ethnic city.

    22. cfehunter on

I’ve always thought that knighthoods were for people that went above and beyond, gave more back to the country than they had to, or made great strides in industry or the arts.

As far as I’m aware he just did his job? Quite well by some accounts, but did he actually do anything beyond what’s expected of the mayor of London?

    23. seeksadvic3 on

“I’ll forever be honoured to serve the city I love – & will continue to do all I can to build a fairer, safer, greener London for everyone,” he added.

      >announced last month that he’ll be ripping up the greenest parts of London, (one notably being Bromley) to build high rise buildings.

    24. Alternative-Bird-894 on

What on earth for? He gets paid god knows how much for his role, and London is significantly more dangerous, dirtier, and more expensive than when he took office. I used to enjoy going to London, but in no universe would I voluntarily go there now, it’s incredibly unsafe and unpleasant overall. Our nations capital has been ruined, partially because of him and his liberal policies.

What has he actually done to help the people of London as a whole?

    25. yellowarmy1 on

Would like to see the people outraged by this also have the same level of outrage at the likes of Oliver Dowden being knighted too

    26. Groovy66 on

Great stuff. I know many don’t approve of the Royals and knighthoods etc but I think honouring citizens who’ve excelled and reached the top of their professions or those who do lots for the community should be recognised. Especially if they’re from working class backgrounds.

Love them or loathe them, people like Khan & Starmer have made a contribution and had an impact on British society.

That said, I moved out of London in 1989 so don’t know much about Sir Sadiq’s background. I know Keir Starmer’s background because he’s a national figure and people mock him for it but I think it cool to see the meritocracy at work

And despite being a being awful racists and Britain being a shithole – according to many in Reddit – it’s good to see excellence recognised and rewarded.

Cue the attacks from both the Left and the Right haha 🤪 with me firmly on the centre-left

    27. Even-Leadership8220 on

Why do politicians get knighted for just doing their jobs? And in his case, badly.
