In your garden? No. On Kauppatori? Yes!

Edit: More seriously: better ask your local town hall. I think I remember that there is a size limit under which you need no permission. Unless you want to set it up on Kauppatori, of course.

If you own your own property check your paperwork, often times it will list the reamining allowable m2 you have left to build with. If its under that limit youre good to go.

You can build these without permission as long as they are at least 5m from the property line

Permit is not needed but you still need to check your lot paperwork to see if you are allowed to build it. You can only build certain amount of m2 on your yard and also depending on the area there might be limitations on how many different buildings is allowed as well.

Also you need to make sure building comes far enough from neighbours yard and is far enough from all the buildings there is.

So even though permit is not needed anymore for small buildings you still have to make sure everything is up to code.

How about small terrance and a pergola? Does it also count towards the square left for building and take into account the property line?
