And then they wonder why AfD is leading the polls… Import Nazis, get Nazism.

The Syrian thing is a very dangerous development, as it could lead to the establishment of an Islamic party in Germany. The plan to liberalize naturalization was originally intended to strengthen the Greens and the SPD.

But in the end things could turn out completely differently, as the proportion of voters could now be large enough for an Islamic party. At least in West Germany.

    4. Seems like many originally Russians were residing in Germany with residence permit for very long time, but decided to obtain the citizenship (translated):

      >The average length of residence of Russian nationals was 14.5 years (2023: 14.4 years). Together with the comparatively low proportion of naturalizations that took place in 2023 while retaining their previous citizenship (23%), this suggests that the significant increase in naturalizations of Russian nationals in 2024 was due less to the shortened length of residence required for naturalization than to the new regulation on retaining previous citizenship.

Same thing happened in Finland recently, but at lower scale in absolute terms.

Some people are into crazy conspiracy explanations here about the increase of Russians, where it can be explained in two words: dual citizenship.

Back then it wasn’t possible. Now it is. People who haven’t applied because of it, now do.

not sure why everyone sees all russians as big evil, a lot of these left russia for good reason and didn’t want to have anything to do with it

I’m sure some of them are perfectly normal people that aren’t extreme, but I know for certain that a large portion of russians in Germany live in tight russian communities, and have done so since the times when Germany was split in two. They watch russian tv, listen to putin like he’s the pope, and have the same extreme beliefs that the russian regime has installed into them. Giving these russians citizenship is asking for problems down the line since taking away citizenship is harder than giving it. I don’t know how many of who got it so it could have no impact.

We all know that the German govt is playing a double game. On one hand, they have to show how the EU is angry at Russia, and on the other, they can’t wait to go back to buying cheap Russian gas and oil.

    10. I see this very differently than most people here.

I have a work colleague from Russia. He’s been here for years. The day of the ukranian invasion was his birthday. He showed up to work that day with a cake and in tears, saying that he did not want to celebrate on a day his country commited such atrocities, and that he was deeply ashamed for his country. That man loves his home, his family there, their local culture.

Still, he is now applying for citizenship here in Germany, simply because he does not want to go back to a dictatorship that would send him into a war they caused. He will make an amazing German and is an incredible addition to our country.

I am not saying these are all the people applying for citizenship, but there are many people like him. People that despise the Kremlin and want nothing more than to see their home freed from him, but are scared to ever return there.

For the majority who wants nothing to do with Kremlin, good for them. Europe brands itself inclusive and open. If that applies to Chinese, Indonesian, Palestinian, Syrian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Colombian, Canadian, and what not, that must also apply to Russian.

For tho sleeper agents and Kremlin sympathizers among them, they are now German citizens. If they break the law, it’s then treason. And they shall be punished accordingly.

It is up to the law enforcement to enforce the law. It’s up to the intelligence agencies to catch the infiltrators. Innocent until proven guilty applies either universally, or not at all.

Russia will be taken over by Ukraine eventually, not by war, but by existing and that’s why we must enable Ukraine to win, so russia can join the civilized world – which doesn’t include MAGA type imbeciles
