“Objecting to bail, the investigating officer cited the seriousness of the case and the strength of evidence, which was said to have included CCTV footage from the area where the teen and others were looking for the man.”

“The judge set bail and ordered him to have no contact with witnesses, to obey an 11 pm – 6 am curfew at his home, to stay out of the housing estate where the incident occurred, and to attend a youth service or education.”

What a country we live in, every prison is overcrowded and Oberstown is as well and every adult and juvenile scumbag in the country knows it too, so they’re making hay whilst they know there is zero repercussions.

Successive FFG coalitions have proven to meek and spineless on all major issues effecting Irish society.

    2. So the attack happened on the 9th of May.

      >He was granted bail with strict conditions on 12 May in the Dublin Children’s Court but, following a four-week adjournment, he did not return for his next scheduled hearing. Noting the youth had not turned up, Judge Brendan Toale issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Was granted bail, didn’t bother to show up for his hearing.

      >The judge set bail and ordered him to have no contact with witnesses, to obey an 11 pm – 6 am curfew at his home, to stay out of the housing estate where the incident occurred, and to attend a youth service or education.

Set bail again. I’m sure he’ll stick to it this time.

The only saving grace for him is that its not alleged that he was the one with the machete, that’s been put with one of the other attackers.

      > He was granted bail

that might be the problem right there.

At some point vigilante groups will take over and do the job that the guards, the judges, the court system, and the prison system should be doing…

    5. I don’t get how there’s so few teenager detention spaces. I know someone who was on a bus last week and something was thrown at the bus and broke the window right next to her. Whole bus stopped, everyone moved to a new bus. I have zero faith anything would happen to that person even if they knew who it was.

I was getting the bus home the last day. Group of tracksuits kids on a traffic island abusing people yielding to traffic. The bus pulled up, they roared abuse at the bus driver then spat at people by the window. I’m not saying throw them in prison but from top to bottom as a society it seems we’re just accepting if you’re under a certain age there is no limit to how much of a bollocks you want to be.
