People will still think FF/FG or SF are going to try and solve the housing disaster.

It’s a very valid reason to vote down. Would you be willing to have a a few tens of grand knocked off your house for social housing to go in next door ? The vast majority wouldn’t.

Property prices going down shouldn’t be enough to deny social housing. It’s so fucking frustrating that someone losing out on some resale money is enough to keep us from making any progress with housing.

I am not saying that it is right but I can understand why people object to housing developments being built near them.

Some people’s complaints and concerns have demonstratable precedents.

Up until very recently a Department of social protection and others will try and shoehorn in new social estates that they knew were going to be unpopular into lower socio-economic status communities. Presumably they thought that they wouldn’t encounter as much resistance doing so.

However, in some areas of the country the only parts left where they can now build new social housing estates are encroaching on more affluent areas directly affecting some councillors, their families and friends. In some cases, I suspect they are getting a lot of stick to halt these developments.

This is despite them running on a manifesto of something totally opposite a couple of months ago!

is there any proof provided that this social housing would lower the value of their properties? Or are we just letting people object based on a speculated negative outcome? And can anyone do this sort of thing? Like, if invested in tesco stocks can i object to new Lidls being built in the country because it might indirectly make my investment go down? Or is this sort of privilege only provided to homeowners?

Please guys, someone please save the rich people from peasants having homes near them. This is unacceptable.

Surely that is a SIPO violation by the estate agent councillor voting against this development going forward.
