Isn’t Denyer the MP for Not Building Anything Anywhere Ever?

Bristol has an unusual problem, look at a map of you think of as Bristol well only the core is actually City of Bristol, the northern suburbs are South Gloucestershire, and to the south the bits might be North Somerset or Bath and North East Somerset.

Insanity, there’s a good reason that the county of Avon was created back in the 70s and then in the 1990s the Tories abolished it and created 4 different unitary authorities.

It’s going to get even worse before it gets better as there’s very little stuff in planning at the moment that solves this. Mostly student units.

    4. Every new housing development in the middle of the city/close by always seems to be for students. I know the argument is that students bring money in to the area but surely new housing should be earmarked for Bristolians who have been on the housing waiting list for years. As a Bristolian myself it often seems that students get everything they need whilst the locals suffer.

Bristol planning is just wild they sort of a led into themselves.
It’s nothing but hard work to do building there.

‘Bristol’s housing crisis is out of control – the Government needs to restore social housing’

The quote is not attributed to anyone. Classic. So the journalist who needed a story said the quote. Then quoted himself saying it.

The government that’s been in power for just under a year?

This is an example for the rest of the country of what happens if you vote green. We are the NIMBY council capital of the UK. Nice for existing large home owners I’m sure. For anyone needing to buy a first home or upsize, you’re fucked unless you have London wages. No decent public transport either. Just loads of plans to make it harder to drive round.

The Bristol post writer completely misses the point and blames central government:

      >Instead, they’re writing new legislation that would hand big developers a blank cheque to build whatever new homes they want, wherever they want – no matter the cost to green spaces or local communities, and regardless of whether the homes they’re building will be affordable or in the places where people want to live

Basically “we need more houses but not there or there, and not any that are too big as some rich people might move in”.

If you build a house of any size it will relieve some of the pressure.

Bristol prices are insanity… But people want to be there. I don’t really understand why. You can move up the road to Gloucester and spend the buckets of cash you’ll save in the Costa del sud for three months of the year instead!

Adding another 400k a year will surely help the housing market?
