The most expensive hospital in the world… and still not fit for purpose. That is what successive FF/FG governments have achieved, and all that we can hope for apparently.

What are we paying for here? This is the end result? The *expected* end result?

Why even bother saying this? The people who will be 16 and 17 by the time this opens haven’t even been born yet.

It’ll be a lovely building .. they just forgot about the need for doctors, nurses, psychologists, etc etc etc.

You can go in and admire the architecture and the totally unnecessarily curved walls and marvel at how ludicrously expensive it was to build.

    5. I wounder how many of the perpetually outrage were also pro giving 16 year olds the vote a week or so ago.

It’s normal for 16 year olds to move from the children’s hospitals system to the adult system

It’s ridiculous that we are grouping 16+ year olds into the adult mental health system.

This is good. Anyone over 16 who is in enough mental distress to go to hospital could really hurt or traumatise a child.

I think the conflict is that while the current and future children’s hospitals only cater to under 16s, CAMHS looks after people up to 18. So there’s a mismatch and I would argue that a 16 year old with psychiatric issues is completely different to an adult in the same position.

That being said, having spent two weeks in Crumlin with a 15 year old it felt really odd to be there as everything is geared to the needs of younger children. For example the meal times were ridiculously early as they’re designed for kids who go to bed at 6pm.
