A direct consequence of ruling out touching the four largest tax revenues – raising a form of taxation that is deeply regressive and regionally unfair.

Why cant we reform it? Land Value Tax would be more fit for purpose

Legalise Cannabis. It’s such an easy win for every point being discussed here. Free up police, removes petty criminals from prison. Taxation guarenteed…..

“set to rise even more” – let me fix that for you telegraph

Is this appropriate at a time of Trump’s attempted coup via the LAPD?

    6. Since when did the government set council tax rates? This is yet more bollocks from the Telegraph.

But the police don’t do anything other than arrest people for social media messages these days?

We want them to just arrest the people causing crimes, not early releasing harden criminals to keep political prisoners incarcerated for three years for social media posts!

Maybe tax the rich and multi-billion pound companies for a change.

Just legalise weed!! It will literally pay for everything

Couldn’t care less about London, there are cops all over the place in London. Come half hour outside London and you will be lucky to see one of them all week.

Or they could be like the military and have a police reserve force with more special constables.

Also big venues and arenas should be coughing up more for policing.

Maybe police should be funded from tax fines given to tax dodgers. Maybe then they’d have an incentive to hold the rich accountable

Legalise weed like the rest of them & save millions on Police funding, without having to raise council tax. Why are our politicians so keen to raise council tax all the time? Any bloody excuse

    14. Correction: fund the profits of private companies like G4S and Serco charging the police exorbitant rents on the police infrastructure Cameron and Osborne GAVE them.

Can they not fund it with the 600 billion that went missing or whatever the number was?

We’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas!! We will have to further the tax burden on the working class because there is no other option clearly…. Right?

Seriously, I’m happy to pay more council tax if it makes change, but I’m feeling pessimistic.

Idiots driving down my dead end road on motorbikes at 80mph, clearly delivering drugs, causing a general nuisance and the police do nothing.

To top it off, roads near me are knackered, schools don’t seem to have any funding, public transport is a mess, my bins are being emptied less frequently and the council won’t even cut the grass on my nearby fields.

I have little faith that it’ll change anything.

What about getting rid of layers of bureaucracy, do we need so many mayors (not the ceremonial ones that work for free), what about the police commisioners that hardly anyone bother to vote for, and my town just centralised the council but we now have a rather pointless looking group of councilors with a small budget to play with just so we can feel ‘represented’.

We could try locking people up again, to give the police a breather. I know it’s complex but some people are just crap.
