      naturalization in canton Schwyz it’s like trying to beat the speedrun record of a game on the hardest difficulty while covering your eyes. Forget about it

      I wonder what is the breakeven ratio of saving on taxes by living in SZ but also having to naturalize on challenge mode.

    3. How it’s down to a cantonal or even Gemeinde decision is ridiculous, the whole process should be a national level.

      I’m a member of a Bürgergemeinde and in our case it’s not that hard to get naturalized. But it’s important that the person knows German (swiss German is a huge plus), and accepts and represents the values of the country.

      There’s no real interview per se. We just ask the person to tell us about them.

      On the other end of the spectrum, Germany naturalized 80k+ Syrians in 2024 (all asylum time and time spent on welfare counts 100% = ~~zero~~ insufficient quality control).

      EDIT: zero -> insufficient.

      Now imagine having black hair…would be interesting to see the percentage of positive applications…

      I mean an SVP guy in Schwyz being in charge of naturalization – good luck with that.

      Can’t help but feel bad for the Dutch couple except in case they voted for Geert Wilders in the Dutch elections. In that case, they got a taste of their own medicine.

      When you get rejected because people do not like you being timid and demand you change your personality, something that is intrinsic and simply a character trait, not something that every Swiss person magically has.

      This man seems to be very positive, chose to live in Schwyz, is a respectable person and I really do not get the problem the Gemeinde had with him.

      Nobody is going to tell you that, but people either dislike the couple for not being Swiss (duh) or the people voted that way because the Gemeindeammann simply told them to vote against the naturalization.

      It really is sad that spending a fifth of your lifetime in a country and not causing problems is not enough. No, you need to let yourself be judged by a tribunal of supremely biased people that probably do not even know you.

      De Gschiider git naa, de Tümmer bliibt staa.

      If you already have a goal, move where you can achieve it. You are not a tree.

      Imagine getting rejected because you are… introverted. Apparently if you want the citizenship, you have to play Truman’s show.

    11. I have lived in Innerschwyz and Ausserschwyz, and I can assure you that foreigners are treated better in Ausserschwyz.
      For example, in places like Lachen, Altendorf, Freienbach, and Wollerau.

      C foreigner opinion. Switzerland is way too liberal with naturalizations.
