By Brendan Cole – Senior News Reporter:

The latest proposed EU sanctions aimed at punishing Vladimir Putin for his full-scale invasion of Ukraine could deliver the knockout blow for Russian natural gas sales in Europe, according to one energy analyst.

If approved by all EU members, the package “could put the final nail in Nord Stream 2’s coffin” Olga Khakova from the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center said, referring to the pipelines between Russia and Germany.

So sanction bundle Nummer 18 is now the final one ? I remain sceptical.

Ehm, as long as Russia sells gas to Azerbaijan and we resell it to EU, this doesn’t mean anything…

It will be a dent for sure. But for over 3 years headlines like these appear. Trying to rhetorically humiliate someone, while only taking baby steps, is the primary reason why Putin talks mainly to the USA and ignores the EU.

There are two problems with Russian gas: it’s Russian and it’s gas

The way things are looking in the Middle East, I could see the price of oil and gas going up significantly. It already has since yesterday. Plenty of other countries that wants to buy their natural resources.

So many “final nails” around to all those dictators but I see them all never better.

    10. Young’un here so I was not so politically engaged at the time because I was a literal child. But I don’t know or understand why European leaders at the time thought it was a good idea to import Russian gas and allow all these oligarchs to run amok and influence our societies. It’s not like Russia was a liberal paradise back then and things have only gotten worse. This should have never been the case I think that our leaders from back then are complicit for enabling all this shit

Edit: I have imprinted in my mind that image of Mark Rutte grinning ear to ear and Angela Merkel being there too as they were opening the Nord Stream pipeline. Hubris

    11. We are now living in a timeline where the EU is actually the one taking the initiative, we wait for the CCP to confirm what is true and what is not and the US have lost the cold war 30 years after it ended
