“new surge in price gouging” is what the headline should be
A call may have been made but it was answered and denied
>But the Government and other official bodies with responsibility for consumer and
competition issues said there are no plans to investigate why grocery and food prices
are shooting up at the moment.
Regulators, mount up!
My wife likes orange juice so I buy orange juice regularly. Centra Orange Juice that was 3 euro a few months back is now 3.85. Is there an orange shortage I am are unaware of ?

4.85 for 2L coke in a centra ffs. cheap get a line of the Columbian at that rate
Is the official probe going up our collective arses too?
There’s absolutely price gouging at hand. The government are too cowardly to call it out or do something about it.
I wish the Irish government would do more to break up market dominance and actively make it as easy & cheap as possible for European goods to enter the country.
It is so easy to compare the cost of a food item against the equivalent available in France or the UK. It should be impossible for a retailer to keep prices above the levels in those countries because access to their products should be widely available.
On similar lines, I think the Irish government should actively encourage a French supermarket chain to enter the country. More competition, more variety, and their food a very high standard and right on our doorstep.
Tesco 18 percent beef mince was 3.85 pre COVID. Then 4.85. Now it’s over 6 euro so I just don’t buy it anymore. Cat food inflation is also insane.
Israel just attacked Iran, so fuel prices are about to surge too. It’s just going to get worse
