The gaslighting is quite something. Either he’s lying or he’s completely out of touch with reality. Either way he isn’t suitable to be a minister.

As a government minister he should know as opposed to Reform chancers who know zilch, even with nice posh voices!
Why make such an easily disproven statement? Just give the typical non-answer like “mostly vulnerable people who are fleeing danger” or something.
It’s a lie. The fact that he can say it with a straight face and then try to gaslight the audience is utterly extraordinary.

This moment actually made me laugh out loud.
This Labour minister is either not aware of what is happening with the small boat arrivals or intentionally trying to mislead people (likely the latter).
The vast majority of people arriving via small boats are young men, and are more than likely economic migrants arriving under the guise of seeking asylum.
I thought the narrative they’ve been spinning for a decade plus is ‘they aren’t refugees they’re working and military age males coming to work, and leaving their women and child at home’.
But apparently we’ve always been at war with Eurasia…
At least 73% of them are adult men according to Home Office figures.
I don’t know why we skirt around this issue. These are economic migrants coming from France because it’s so easy for them to do so.
I wonder if it makes it much harder for genuine refugees to access support. It does seem incredibly selfish and egocentric of them to think they can just disregard a nations borders.

I remember farage being on a beach going on about how all the people getting off a boat were “combat age males”
and another, non-farage, camera angle showed the better quality boat landing down the beach full of women and children.
Farage had chosen to show only the poor quality boat, which was the more risky option, the men had gone on, to leave the better one (and that was shite) for the women and children.
yes a lot are younger men, because the journey is dangerous, and especially for women and children, but its not all younger men by any means.

We sure talk a lot about small boats considering its the raw numbers of migrants that piss people off, legal or illegal, and small boat crossings hardly contribute to that massive figure.
Reminder as well, this is only verified adults.
Looking at charts on the ages of asylum seekers there are significant spikes in those claiming to be 16-17 and a massive drop off for 18-19.
There is no such manipulation when looking at the chart for asylum seekers from Nigeria. However, of other nationalities such as Afghanistan, Iraq, East African, it’s very clear many 18-21 lie about their age.
I’m sure we all remember the infamous story of when the triple murderer aged 21 from Afghanistan was placed in a secondary school.
Over the past 10 years 52 asylum seekers registered as under 18 were later found to be over 30.
The only other data I could find is from 2015, 68% of those who had their age disputed (which is assumed to be a minority of those claiming to be underage) were found to be adults.
So the 75% figure is also likely to be unreliable. Looking at videos of the small boats is probably an easier estimate, 90% male. Women and small children rare.
Politicians still act like the internet is not a thing.
They lie and seemingly expect people to believe it, or don’t care.
They don’t seem to realise their bullshit can be shared online instantly. Remember when Ed Milliband (could have been George Osborne) just gave the exact same answer to a series of questions?
They seem terrified of having an actual debate. Their spiel of repeating the party line makes them a laughing stock.
Break it down however you want this isn’t our biggest problem despite the press’s best efforts, and if we hadn’t done Brexit things may be better. I’m sure the Daily Mail will include that caveat.
If he said this 10 years ago. It’d still be untrue but people would believe in.

Everybody jumping on him, but lets think sensibly about this for a moment…
We’ve all seen the reports of “20 something adult males” self identifiying as school age teenagers, then being allowed into secondary schools with you know, teenage children.
– Fucking madness, but that ticks one box about the children.
The other “adult males” he’s likely referring to haven’t given border agency staff their pronouns. So maybe many self identify as “women”.
– And that ladies, gentlemen and teenage boys (with wrinkles and copious amounts of facial hair) ticks his second box about most boats containing women.
