>If the **definition of Pfas** were narrowed, it could drastically reduce the scope of regulation regimes currently being worked out in the EU and UK, limiting the number of substances subject to control, undermining monitoring efforts and potentially weakening public health and environmental protections, according to the scientists.
A potential **ban on Pfas** across the **European Union** is expected to take effect in 2026. However, proposed **changes to the scientific definition of Pfas** could result in many substances **no longer being classified as Pfas**, and therefore escaping regulation.
Notably, the role of Professor **Pierangelo Metrangolo** of the Polytechnic University of Milan, co-chair of the project, whose extensive academic background includes collaborations with the polymer industry, notably with the former **Solvay** company. Solvay is currently facing trial for alleged environmental disaster due to PFAS contamination linked to its industrial site in Spinetta Marengo.
It’s purely economically motivated. If it’s proven to be dangerous or has the potential of it, then I guess we’ll switch to stainless steel and use a bit more oil.
Ceramic pans are a great option.
And some water repellent stuff really does not need to be water repellent. The everyday consumer can get wet from time to time.
“Well really how long is forever? Forever forever or kinda forever?”
