I wonder what rhetoric we will get this autumn:
_”Just another £20bn, this be the last tax rise, I swear.”_
And/Or
_”£20bn black hole caused be the conservatives”_
And/Or
_”We’re not raising taxes on working people”_
…
_proceeds to raise taxes on working people_
So far every economic forecaster that has voiced an opinion believes taxes will need to rise in the Autumn, it seems the argument is over what is raised and by how much not will they actually go up.
Oh no, please up income taxes more so there’s even less disposable income to go around to but actual goods and services!
C’mon. Everyone including the OBR know these forecasts are bullshit. They make assumptions about government policy in a decade based on policy now which is accurate even in the short term. eg They still assume the fuel tax escalator is in operation despite it being suspended every year for 25 years.
They just need to cut the performative bullshit and raise income taxes.
They need to pay for benefits for all the migrants
What can any government do? As soon as they cut something everyone is bitching and we are back to square 1 while also wanting better everything for nothing.
The 20B Tory ‘black hole’ in UK finances won’t go away on it’s own…
We’ve just found another £20b black hole the tories left us….
I’ve been supportive of labour and think they’ve done a fairly solid job overall.
However, the backtracking on WFA really annoyed me whilst their obsession with spending limits whilst having no appetite to address the elephant in the room of the triple lock just means the burden of tax rises will fall on the workers as usual.
I appreciate whoever was in charge would likely go a similar way of trying to keep the pensioners happy but it’s frustrating seeing this happen knowing their is an easy (but politically impossible) solution to a good chunk of these spending issues…
Can Rachel Peeves-the-Public please just fuck off and let someone competent and with a vision be chancellor please?
There’s been no focus or plan from day one and it shows
