From cult of personality to blood on the wall — authoritarianism always ends one of two ways: exile or execution. Ceaușescu got the latter

FYI, this is is a reenactment. The actual moment they were shot wasn’t recorded, we just have the preceding moments and the immediate aftermath.

For people who compare putin to Hitler – this should be the way for putin, the Ceausescu way.

That is a frame from a scene movie, not from the execution tape.

Sadly too many dictators enjoy comfortable retirement instead of such a well deserved fate. It would have been fitting to see Assad, to name a recent example, face justice for his crimes.

I know it’s historical and all but would it be possible to like atleast spoiler the image so that the first thing I see when opening up reddit ISNT 2 people getting executed by firing squad?

It is now accepted his fall was a palace coup and the expediency of his execution was also to stop him from spreading too much dirt on his overthrowers, that quickly transitioned into rich capitalist oligarchs afterwards…

After Kredits scene: Viktor Orban talking about stupid russian propaganda, and how they silenced free speech. I hope he’s the next one, I never waited any election more, than this. Also I hope Ukraine and Georgia will be free, not mentioning states like Belarus.

Just a little anecdote about a Elena Ceaușescu and a metro station in Bucharest ([Piața Romană](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pia%C8%9Ba_Roman%C4%83_metro_station)):

According to the people who worked on this station, the fist Lady herself was of the opinion that workers and students are too lazy and would get fat with a train station this close to the University would be build. Therefore, with foresight, engineers planned and build the station in secret, while building the rest of the line. Because of this, to this day, the station has really short platforms and you stand really close to the tracks when waiting for the train (there is a picture in the wiki link above).

I know this sub really hates the modern day tyrants of Europe and for good reason. But Nicolae and Elena Ceaușescu were such pieces of shit that they make modern dictators look tame in comparison.

What history shows is that although the dictatorship ended, corruption and oligarchy have continued in Romania to this day. It was brought down for other reasons unrelated to the dictatorship, but on paper it looks good to say that was the reason.

Correction: Two actors playing the roles of the Ceausescus reenact the execution scene for a movie. [circa 2009]

Many died during those weeks. Heck, I was on the ground with my grandparents in our living room as they were shooting at civilians and rumours had it they will shoot apartment blocks without any remorse. My parents were on the streets with many others who were not as lucky as mine to live and see how 36 years after you had millions in that country crying for communism to return as it was so much better than today.

The good ole days … exports were booming and we had zero food in the cities. If you lived at the country side you were considered royalty. You’d eat an orange every 6 months and to get some meat you’d queue up the night before on a rumour that they will bring meat. Oftentimes these were just rumours.

My favourite part is the Robin Hood attitude where one of Nicolae’s kids would stop trucks full of food going to the border for exports and force them to go back to the cities and give people food.

What a pathetic period and these guys still yearn for it …

in poland our communist regime at least realised when they werent gonna be able to stay in power anymore and gave up power without bloodshed and their lives got spared in return

The paradox is that he was elected as very popular and welcomed politician and leader and people really did like him in the beginning. However, relatively soon and steady, he turned into a ruthless dictator using his secret police (securitate) in order to tyranize his own people. And when people have had enough, they took it to the streets. But the moron ordered military to open fire on people during the protest in Temisvar and that was the drop that spilled the glass and practically sealed his fate (considering his atrocities, it probably wouldn’t be too different, even without this)… the rest is history: failed escape out of the country and…an eye for an eye execution with mock trial (just to satisfy the norm)…

      All in all…good riddance.

I do not support killing. It doesn’t matter which side. Killing is wrong. Full stop. Go ahead, tell me how unreasonable I’m being

There is no oficial video of the shooting. 1. Ppl were afraid they will be found later . 2. Some officials said that they didn’t want any video of the actual deaths, just so they can be erased from our history.

    21. Every few months the same type of posts and the same wrong picture, internet is really half dead
