To the surprise of absolutely noone. There’s a reason why they refuse to enable encryption by default, and even the one available is suspicious at best.
Well their servers are owned (through multiple entities) and operated by a company which organises events for the kremlin which is owned by a former FSO (Presidential security service) officer and someone who graduated from a military communications institute in Russia. Both live and work in Russia.
Other than this very minor detail, I see nothing suspicious /s
Edit: Oh and Durov in Tuckers interview said that he doesn’t visit Russia since he left but he actually went there over 50 times in the last 10 years according to the leaked FSB database. Also a Spiegel investigation revealed that noone has actually been active at the Telegram offices in UAE, no one in the office building knows where the Telegram team is for many years now. And so on…
You are saying that the company founded by a Russian is a Russian intelligence asset?
