EU is quite more careful about new member states after Romania and Bulgaria were fast tracked into the union

    2. rintzscar on

Albania is, Montenegro would need to pick up the pace of reforms and chapter opening in order to join alongside Albania.

There won’t be another country admitted until there is voting reform in the EU. The absolute veto needs to go

Montenegro is probably the closest to EU membership at this point, followed by Albania. Still got issues with corruption, rule of law, etc. but they’re stable countries with functioning democracies and growing economies. They’re still a few years away.

There is no fast track for membership. Any candidate has to go trough the same process, and the speed depends on the member itself and its pace of adjustment to the acquis. Montenegro has started the path in 2012, so we could hardly call this fast. Albania on the other hand started in 2020, but they’re making speedy progress. The two countries are just the most advanced in the process of negotoations. This does not mean that there is any formal fast track to conclude them.

The short answer is yes and that is because of the EU’s will to accept our countries.

We(Albania) are about to open all the chapters in less than a year. 5 clusters are open with just one remained to open in July this year.
Serbia opened its first chapter in 2015, more than 10 years ago and still has opened just 22/34.
It took Montenegro 6 years to open them.

This would have been unimaginable before the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
It takes too to have a relationship.

I am not saying that Albania isn’t working hard to become part of the EU and work with reforms, the same for MNE but the main reason is the will from the EU side to accept these two countries, all the statements have been positive.

Politically speaking they are the most stable countries in the region, especially Albania with a very anti Russia sentiment even among the ordinary population.

Nope lol and I can guarantee there won’t be a single country joining very soon UNLESS it’s Norway or Iceland as these two are strong economies and have all the EU laws implemented already basically + same values.

EU needs to change on the inside first and then admit new members.

Corruption has grown its roots inside the EU as well, most powerful officials are completely controlled by money and are making decisions based on that.

Hungary and Slovakia (and maybe Poland again soon) are making all kinds of issues.

Too many members are simply poor and need constant economic IV (croatia, hungary, bulgaria, romania)

The Baltics keep asking for more and more money due to being so close to Russia and having to defend themselves.

There are simply too many issues within the union at the moment that admitting any new members sounds like a fairy tale.

There is a false belief especially in nationalistic countries of Western Balkan that there will be large expansion with many countries or there will be none. All this is false rhetorics because EU is always about the reforms first.

Only Albania and Montenegro are suitable. Although there is Russian interference in proxy Serbia and is infuelcing Montenegro still as a small and open country Montenegro can be a success story. Probably around 2030-2032.

In Albania there is no Russian influence in politics or the church and the reforms go much faster.

Countries such as Bosnia, N.Macedonia and Serbia are not suitable and are obviously stalled.

I believe Moldova and Ukraine to be stalled also. But they definitely belong in the EU.

Can we like not and first reform the EU voting process?

      Cool thanks.

Ivanka bought an island in Albanias coast. If we get in the EU, her return on investment is gonna skyrocket. So I am pretty sure the new US admisttation is going to pressure EU to accept us quickly

Montenegro is quite small and would be easy to integrate, the country will develop at a much faster pace in the EU and has significant potential. Still some problems with corruption and crime but in my opinion they’re in a much better state than Romania and Bulgaria were when they joined. As to Albania, I’m not so keen on their joining so soon and believe it to be premature.
