Remember when Jennifer Carroll MacNeill (now the current Minister for Health) said that we need more immigration into the country due to Ireland ”having a lack of panel beaters”?
I wonder does the same apply to doctors…

Oh look another one of those resources we don’t have enough of. We should focus on bringing in more unskilled people, that will fix the problem.

I was chatting to the GP a few weeks ago and he is letting his “apprentice” open up a practice a few doors down. He said he didn’t mind as he himself can’t take on any more patients and he has another “apprentice” coming on line and she could probably end up running a GP service too in the local town as there is plenty of demand.

Replace them with ChatGP(T), all of them. They are useless anyway. Either googling your symptoms as they speak to you, suggesting a mandatory paracetamol or write referral letters to a specialist – all simple tasks for AI.

Lots of other countries require their medical doctors to work in their home countries before they can leave. I think they do this through forgivable loans, but not totally sure. Every time this comes up in Ireland, we get reasons that this is unfair. Tough titties. We payed for your education and this is something good that you can do for your community for three years before you leave to make more money in Australia.

There is a fairly obvious thing that can be done to help this.
Give medical students free fees in exchange for signing a contract tying them into the HSE for three years after they qualify. The amount of doctors we train who immediately go to Canada or Australia after they qualify is breathtaking.
It’s absolute lunacy to be importing doctors whilst we are simultaneously bleeding them.

Keep wasting money on business consultants. KPMG an EY and Deloitte and AI will fix everything.
