      YES! Please.

Take power away from the man child thats in the white house right now. And once Europe takes over leading the alliance, their first job should be ending the Ukraine war. Take off the kids glove and tell Russia to take a hike or Europe would send all their modern weapons to Ukraine and ending trade with all nations thats trading with Russia. (similar to the bill that Trump blocked in congress)

Maybe even threaten to enter the war too to help Ukraine push Russia out even without the help from the US.

Lead? The US has left NATO in all practical terms. It’s about time Europeans woke up to reality.

There’s no material capacity to replace the US, not even close. America already has everything figured out in terms of its global deterrence and defense infrastructure, logistics and systems. It would be a tremendous undertaking for Europe to try and emulate that, which will be very complicated considering that EU is not a single country.

    5. You cant truly do that with many small countries pretending to be united sadly.

      European NATO needs additional alliances.

Considering it already had one spanning one ocean it makes no significant difference forming relations with those in other oceans – Australia, NZ, SK Japan and even Taiwan.

The difference would be they can form their own regional version. Whilst forces would not typically be sent from one to the other they can send help in another way – cooperation to build space defenses which aren’t regional anyway, nuclear missile interception, nuclear weapon production and design, testing, drone technologies, drone defense technologies “iron domes” and the physical munitions needed to fight wars.

Additionally there are economic benefits. Tariff free trade internally, strategic development of energy resources (Australia and Canada can replace US for energy and equal OPEC, plus uranium etc.)

this is a rope a dope. the US leads europe whether europe likes it or not. the germans just want to start using defense spending to recover their badly hurt economy

UK, Canada and continental Europe should go it alone, leave NATO and form a new alliance Mediterranean, Europe, Atlantic, Treaty Organisation (MEATO).

This is not feasible at the moment. It is against US military law to put US troops under foreign leadership. This is why the Supreme Commander must be American if you want them to participate. So putting a European in charge can only happen once NATO no longer depends on the US. And we’re decades, if ever, from that position.

They need to wake up. Their concern should be Ukraine and Russia.

I think both Americans and Europeans want the same thing: Europe needs to be more self-reliant.
Americans want to focus on countering China.
Europeans want enough self-reliance to be able to pursue our security interest without American approval.
Instead of this whole ugly divorce, we should make a deal: The US will help us becoming self-reliant and Europe will help America counter China.

Rotating France, Germany and Britain in SACEUR and Poland/Romania/Finland through DSACEUR would be a powerful statement about our own defence responsibility.
