Google afferma che questi segni sono marcatori del chilometro che sembrano probabili, ma sicuramente non sembrano un km di distanza e non vanno rigorosamente in ordine crescente o discendente.

  1. They are kilometer markers for the rhine beginning in Konstanz going down the mountain. And yes they are a (rhine)km apart. Every 500m you should see a big plus and every hundred metres you should see a single number determining how many hundred metres you’re from the last km marker

They go from source to sea. Kilometer 0 is in Konstanz where the rhine exits Lake Constance and ends in the Netherlands ~1032. Every 500m you see a `+` sign, that indicated the 500m between. They also do not measure the distance on the shoreline, but the official shipping route through the river, so the signs might be over a km apart on the shore, but on the water it should be correct.

If they’re not in ascending order, you should call the [WSA Rhein](https://www.wsa-rhein.wsv.de/Webs/WSA/Rhein/DE/Startseite/startseite_node.html) that somebody messed with their signs

That is the number of people that drowned in that spot from the year 1066 to now.

The river gets more dangerous in one direction and less dangerous if you travel the other way.
