Well I guess Thames Water is going bust then, there is no way the Government can do any of that otherwise every other Utility would want the same allowances. We would be rolling the clock back 50 years or more it would be a political disaster for them.

The government should tell them to fuck off and nationalise the company now, and pay the creditors 1% or whatever.

> The creditors are also asking for changes to Thames Water’s licence, which would provide added protection against Ofwat fines and penalties and would also allow them to raise prices at any time before 2030.
Look Keir, we just want the ability to rinse the UK rate payers for everything they are worth and not have any obligations to provide a decent service or act in a responsible way. That alright mate?

How did a water utilities company that has a guaranteed customer base of millions and had zero debt when it was sold, run up a 13 billion debt?

In the BBC documentary/mockumentary Thames Water: Behind the Crisis, the boses of the company and those actively involved in the monitoring process explicitly stated to the camera with shit eating grins on their faces that they deliberately, openly, and illiegally manipulated their pollution reporting data as part of a “game” they played to try to “shake off” and debunk the third-party scientists who were trying to expose the scale of the pollution that they were underreporting.
This same organisation that has been breaking the law repeatedly, openly admitting its liability on camera and laughing about it, used its position to trash the good name of honest scientists and environmental workers who have been doing their best to protect the wildlife and country that we want to preserve. And these shits want amnesty from the law?
How about they all get fucked. You know what sounds better? Let’s have every high ranking employee that colluded on these crimes from the CEO to the managers and the reporters of those forged statistics thrown in Belmarsh for a long stint and have all their assets (personal as well as business, so their homes, shares, cash, the whole lot) seized as proceeds of crime. Do the lot of them under joint enterprise for environmental damage and let’s start the whole industry from scratch.

Can anyone tell me why they think they’re entitled to this?
Like what’s the argument they’re making?

How about go fuck yourselves and if you don’t like it, we’ll take it into public hands and you get pennies on the pound.

Thankfully it seems like the Government has half a mind to tell the creditors to shove it.

Well with the vulture equity corporations requiring the government to hand us over at least there’s no need to worry about the Russians.

I hope they go bankrupt to be honest, and individuals are prosecuted for the amount of environmental damage they (Thames) caused.

About time we just let them get on with it and go bankrupt. The creditors lent £20bn to a company that was never going to be able to pay that back and was in any case just giving the money to shareholders. They could see that. They are stupid and should lose all their money. Give them the asset values (proper ones not the inflated UK water industry ones) for the things it owns, make a new water company and let the creditors fight over the scraps.
This is a clear sign of the failure of privatised water and asking to be let off the legal consequences of their failure in exchange for being allowed to rinse the public for even more money is just insulting.
