    1. “”They were all IT types, so they didn’t actually drink that much, like, imagine if a company from here put on seven open bars,” he said – which seems best not to imagine.”

Not gonna lie, that made me chuckle…

There’d be something nearly kafkaesque about trying to leave a work party for a quiet pint next door only to find out that other pub has the same work party.

No different to Warner bros closing a street for a day or two and paying the businesses estimated lost revuenue based on past sales and a bit extra for the hassle

My old local used to complain about American IT companies booking their place because “it’s not like they even drink much, it’s one or two pints each”
It sounded like it ended up causing them more hassle than it was worth

The US IT company saw the price of a pint and realised they’d have to have mass redundancies if they let staff have a free for all.

I was an attendee through my employer, it was open to all staff, attendees and vendors/sponsers. Approx 1500 people. It was part of Dattocon in the convention Center which finished up today.

Edit: it was a European convention for IT companies across Europe so plenty of drinking was happening. The Americans were mostly the vendors and the organiser.
