Enough of Kremlin/Trump agenda here, please!

Spain is right of course. But Europe doesn’t really have an option but to increase their spending. The US under Trump is unreliable and can’t be trusted. Europe needs to beef up its own military. I don’t know what the eventual # would be to replace the US but 2% isn’t going to cut it.

I’m playing devil’s advocate here. Spain isn’t wrong. 5% is quite unreasonable. The US only spends around 3%, and they’re literally the world’s police. Honestly if every NATO country hits 2% spending that will be fine. The issue is the few countries that spend under that.

We can start to find the enemy first. The arms industry and governments.

Spain is right, 5% is insane. The Finnish government has spent years telling us that the state is almost (if not already) bankrupt and have been cutting spending on everything. But they can magically afford to increase defense spending without going bankrupt? We absolutely cannot afford a couple of 100 million for healthcare, social services, infrastructure, but we can easily afford a couple of billion to send to the US for weapons.

Spain is to far from Russia

2% defense spending of the NATO members would be 1,4T$, 58% of the worldwide total military budget, Russia spends (wartime) 10% of that.
now I ask: what are we lacking to defend ourselves against Russia and justify this increase to 5% ? Do we need more tanks? More aircrafts? Submarines? Is anyone going to justify why 2% is not enough?
Everyone is going to tell me that Spain WAS not spending that, and I think it’s wrong and they should be paying for that (even for every year that hasn’t reached that agreement), but that is not the issue, I would like someone to tell me why 60% of the worldwide military budget is not enough. Do you want to take the US out of the equation? Fine, just France, UK and Germany spend twice as Russia; so again, why 5%? Why not 4%? 10%?
I do think military budget increase is good or could be good for many reasons (deterrence, investment in new technologies with civilian applications, etc.), but that should be an incentive for the members for pushing beyond the minimum agreed, but again, what is lacking NATO, or even europe, for matching Russia? If someone tells me I very much agree with increase the budget whatever is needed to defense the eastern flank of Europe against Russia

I’m all for increased defense spending but are we really going to get to 5% just because trump felt like tweeting it randomly one day? Lmfao. I want Sánchez out but he’s totally right on this.

The EU shouldn’t play Trump’s game.
