Quick! Lockdown!!! Panic!!!!
A couple of very old people in bad health might die. We must spend billions and crash the economy. Save boomers at any cost.

I remember in 1976 when we had a whole month of temperatures that were 50C plus. We just slapped a bit of oil on and went a got a tan. Walked all the way uphill to and from school in that heat.

At 11pm last night here is Edinburgh, loft temp was 29 degrees, upper bedroom temp was 24 and outside was 20. The house is all insulated, but that loft heat has kept the bedroom temp at 23 this morning when it’s now only 14 outside. Well that and being occupied. Time to fit a smart loft fan,I guess

We should be setting up cold banks for the summer similar to heat banks in the winter
I really feel for people struggling with this, the heat can be very oppressive if you aren’t prepared.

Isn’t that comparable to the weekly deaths from air pollution, which just gets seen as business as usual.

We should do something about this – like go back in time and not release so many greenhouse gases

I have portable AC and will be buying 2x more of them. The 250 year old part of my house stays cool. The 3 year old extension (same size as original house) gets HOT as hell because of the 900 yards of insulation we were forced to install.
And in winter… yeah, old part is just as warm as new bit. Always has been. Old houses were made of magic.

Current heatwave? I’m in Suffolk and it was 26 yesterday and forecast 30 today, it’s hot but it’s not extreme like we had a few years ago.
I was in Budapest 2 weeks ago and it was 34 and I don’t recall seeing people dying in the streets

Not all bad, it’ll save a few quid come winter fuel payments time!
Plus some inheritance tax might even get paid! Oh and some younger generations might now be able to afford a house with their inheritance! There might be some benefit after all to this! Every cloud and all that

This is very sad. Where can people go to keep cool during this heatwave? Air churches air conditioned or naturally cool because of the stone? The inside of caves is always cool. We must do better at protecting our vulnerable from heat stroke.

Look imma be honest. I do not understand this. Sure it’s really hot but humans can sweat, which generally prevents heat death you just need to make sure you drink water.
There is so many parts of the world where humans live and have lived that get hotter than here. It is the same temp at 4am where I am from as it is at 10am and 15-20° hotter during the day with higher humidity in which most kids play sports outside.
And before we start saying but they have AC, not everyone does or turns it on. It’s expensive to run, my parents never did.
There are lots of areas too that don’t have it. I lived in Los Angeles as well and no where I lived had AC.
So why are so many British people expected to die or are struggling.
Is it an education issue? Is it the British pastime of the weather with a bit of doom and gloom?
Advice for people if they needed it from my experience living in hot places:
Freeze water bottles in your freezer overnight. Shut all windows and curtains from the sun when it starts to heat up and reopen them in the evenings when it gets cool. You can take multiple cold showers if you really need it. Stay in the shade in the middle of the day as needed. Wear lose cotton clothing in light colors like white.

Don’t worry, our benevolent, all-wise authorities evidently don’t care about people in this country dying. Has not the House of Commons just gleefully given its stamp to euthanasia for the most vulnerable members of our society.
If the heat won’t kill your granny, your cousin’s unsubtle hints about the annoyance of her continued existence will surely drive her to sign up for assisted dying.

Stop. FGS it’s summer. 30 degrees is not unusual in the UK and never has been. Look at the summer of 76. Please please please stop the false crisis narrative.
