In Kütahya, a 31-year-old suspect was arrested by Turkish security services after californium (radioactive element) worth $70 million was found in his vehicle. Two illegal pistols and 63 cartridges were among the materials seized. Californium is a synthetic chemical element first generated in 1950 at a US laboratory. It doesn’t exist in nature and is used to utilize nuclear reactors.

How the fuck was this guy able to get that much , also how the fuck did he trasport it because neutrons are waaay mor dificult to stop compared to alpha , beta or gama radiation . If you check this wikipedia page under application you can see the container needed to safely transport up to 1 gram of it and this guy had 7.25 g which is insane especialy when you consider that oak ridge national laboratory only produces .25 of a gram per year

What could he have been planning on doing with such material?

From looking it up it seems it’s only produced in two places on earth, a lab in the US and one in Russia. And they both produce very little annually (total worldwide production annually is 0.25-0.5 grams), so how did this guy even get it and get that much. Fascinating

Either corrupt officials or/and unofficial facilities that produce it.

      Bullshit.

Californium would not be transported in anything less than a huge, specially produced shipping container, and we’re talking at most a few grams at that scale.

Turkish Heisenberg out there, brewing his own californium to sell on the streets.
