No he should pay it back to the government of Ireland. That’s who he took it from. Rte just gave it to him

Moving on would have entailed RTE making the cuts it needed to instead of getting bailed out. Much as he was part of that culture Ryan is only the tip of the iceberg in that scandal.

Money has been resting in his account for a good while now..

He HAS moved on. Why would he give back contractually owed money he was paid?

    5. theoldkitbag on

He absolutely should not. He didn’t steal it, he asked for it as he was entitled to do, and RTÉ made the absolutely unsupportable and corrupt decision to give it to him. We know they knew it was wrong by the fact they tried to hide the money in the accounts. Their incompetence and malfeasance is not his crime. That the Minister is making such a suggestion of the one person involved who didn’t act illegally when not a single other actor is facing repercussions is ridiculous.

Much as I think his (and others) pay at RTE was ridiculous, and his behaviour questionable at best, I don’t think he should be expected pay anything back. He didn’t do anything wrong. He was money he was contractually owed.

If he did anything wrong to get that money, surely he can be taken to court.

Ryan is not the only person that has benefitted from tax payer exploitation, we should look for refunds from all of them.

Request Dee Forbes before the media committee again.

We’re all taken for a bunch of mugs by the elite. Our taxpayer money squandered, internal reviews post controversy, nobody convicted, and the cycle repeats.

RTE leaders were the scum. We know. Everyone just forgot about Dee and all the arseholes of course

The people who got the flip flops should be made to return them as well as it appears we are going for the low hanging fruit. RTE problems are alot bigger then Ryan this is just smoke and mirrors to distract us from the real problems.

Did he not say at one point he would pay it back🤥?

Personally I feel like he is being made to be something of a scapegoat for RTE. Perhaps this is all I choreographed movement, i.e. Tubridy is set up in the UK, someone is going to give him 150 K under the table to give back to the state broadcaster publicly and they will then claim that everything is fixed, that people should move on that there is nothing to see there.

The rot and inefficiencies run a lot deeper in the state broadcaster than what was publicised with the pay scandal. It needs to be greatly downsized, mostly privatised but not all elements of it are going to be commercially viable and what is left can be funded out of general taxation.

In reality the entire national forecaster serves as many people as a small regional UK media outlet but here they expect to be paid Hollywood type figures. It’s bonkers.

Let the state broadcaster be something of a feeder for up-and-coming talent who spend a couple of years here getting experience and publicity before landing massive jobs in the private sector. That should be our role in the food chain.

I’m not forgetting it.  So don’t know what the “we can move on” comment is about. I wish media would stop trying to push tubridy on us. He’s going to try for a come back and I hope he never gets it.

    15. There’s a bit of misdirection going on as well, the Tubridy thing is getting the headlines but RTE had a lot of lower profile staff that were classified incorrectly as independent contractors and are pulling some sort of chicanery to get out of paying money they’re owed. The echo chamber podcast has an ep about it.

Worth it to keep him out of Irish broadcasting, even if it’s only for a few more years.

    17. He’s being publicly rehabilitated, this is all part of the game
