Why not land in Jeddah?
The flight was next to the city when it diverted. It’s a major Arab connecting airport very easy for passengers to take another flight to Dubai. It’s a massive airport with lots of parking space so be cheap to land.
But no the better idea is to do go to Zurich the very expensive small airport which will cost BA a fortune to get hotels for everyone.

BA should be applauded for taking these decisions. Other European airlines, notably Lufthansa group seem to fall over themselves to take the earliest opportunity to return overflying the likes of Iran the last few years, while ba has avoided it outright. Yes is inconvenient, but safety should always be a priority over unnecessary risks.

Seems that not many other airlines agree with their preferred route back from Asia, hugging the Iranian border after passing over the India/Pakistan border.

That same flight usually goes over Oman, and across Saudi and Egyptian airspace.
Good planning there. Wouldn’t want a repeat of what happened during the Kuwait invasion. Grim that was.
