Wes if you can’t support the new law then do the honorable thing and resign.

None of this is to do with affordability and all to do with him being a practicing Anglican.

Streeting just wants to block this however he can, because he believes that what his god tells him means that *you* should not have any autonomy over your dying.

This guy has delusions of becoming PM one day. Be careful who you vote for

I think he’s just trying to stop the bill, it’s obvious that killing the sick is cheaper than treating them.

Everyone else is asking questions around ministerial and collective responsibilities, if you won’t do something that’s enact by the government or parliament- you resign.

There will be some setup costs, for sure. But in theory, shouldn’t this be cheaper per person than 6 months of palliative care?

    8. Nights_Harvest on

There really has to only be one facility for this, somewhere nice and lovely with well paid stuff that covers the whole process and support system for workers as well. This way the potential of exploitation for this type of treatment remains low. It not a thing that will be high in demand. The actual costs will be just a drop in the ocean per year.

The bill is too narrow and should encompass individuals with cerebral events, atleast in my opinion. Allowing people to make advance decisions in event of a massive stroke, dementias and so on.

If I have a massive stroke, with the likelihood of needing peg feeding, speech impairment, unable to use my limbs – I certainly wouldn’t want to live

Am I the only one thinking that awful as it sounds surely assisted dying is cheaper than keeping terminal people alive for longer?

Lets hope they learnt from the last Government and dont rush out the service just to look like they’re doing something, and dont properly plan and prepare for it

He’s all about pragmatism until he’s the one who has to compromise.

A total cunt, through and through.

The answer is to resign if all he’s going to do is whine that it can’t possibly be implemented.

    14. The government apparently has up to 4 years to implement this. I can see Streeting dragging his feet all the way, then needing extra time in the end. Fucking bastard should resign or be sacked if he can’t implement it. Given it is only an optional service, and you have to convince a social worker etc, then it should be brought in quicker.

    15. I have a horrible feeling that is going to end up as one huge mistake, to frack up, to even bigger blunder.

If the first question is how will it be funded in an already starched to heck service this looks like it will to not bode well.

Hopefully this is just him asking for the funding.

He has money to reduce medical care for trans people and support conversion therapy to young trans people on the NHS though

      Oh shut up, Wesley!

If you don’t like it, resign so someone better can do it. Your shitty little articles in The Sun about how “woke” the NHS is tell us you’re only in it for the money, anyway.

    18. TinFish77 on

Since medical professionals won’t be getting involved I’m sure a private firm will happen along soon enough.

    19. lizzywbu on

Tough shit. The law has been passed. Either uphold the law and find the money or resign.

Mmm think his ‘christian’ beliefs get in the way of accepting democracy

    21. Sad_Proposal2901 on

Just do what the previous government did and underfund the NHS. That resulted in a lot of assisted dying.

    22. BaggyBloke on

Hmm let me guess, his next line will be ‘ but my friends at MPM Connect and United Health’ can put together a great private solution for free – well ‘free’ unless you need to use it.
