      >It was a historic and highly divisive moment

Was and still is highly divisive.

As someone who voted “Remain”, one of the main points I tried to use to convince my aquiantances who were planning on voting “Leave” as a protest or because they were “tired of hearing about the EU” was that if we voted to Leave we would be “hearing about the EU” constantly for the next decade.

9 years on from the vote, and the UK is still trying to work out the extent of our post-Brexit relationship with the EU.

What a massive fuck up that was and continues to be.

Ever wondered if Russia didn’t influence this the way they did the American election

I was so unhappy when that happened and I took it all a bit personal to be honest. I was like “damn, I like so much about the UK, why don’t you like us back?”.

These days I feel mostly pity when I think about “Brexit-Britain”. The Brexit benefits didn’t materialize and now Starmer has to suck up to Trump because they UK without the single market can’t afford to lose even more trade opportunities.

And the remaining Brexies have become like those people who always say “but real communism hasn’t even been tried!” – “we didn’t even have a ‘real’ Brexit!”. So desperate.

I hope you guys come back eventually. I know some other EU citizens believe that the EU is better off without the UK, but you will always have my support.

    5. This should have been the massive wake up call for the toxicity of social media, and since then literally nothing has happened.

      It is demoralising.

As a Brit, I always like to take a moment on this anniversary to turn to my family and friends who voted in favour of this glorious action and say to them:

“Thank you. You absolute fucking idiots”.

Every country should do a referendum again if the votes are so close to 50%.

I also like what they do in Old School Runescape, they need 70% of the votes for something to pass. Not realistic for a country to do, but maybe a 55% minimum.

    8. Forever? Where did that come from? It changed them “for now”.

I get why it happened – “Remain” option was very toothless in the whole campaign.

It’s a shame, cause both the UK and UE bear consequences of this dumb decision to this day.

This is great example why general public should not be allowed to decide critical state-wide decisions. Most people are simply unqualified to make such a decision. They make choice based on the emotions, not the facts.

Such a small difference despite the massive pro-Leave propaganda and lies. Plus the interference from US groups and Russia and the corrupted British media owned by millionaires not paying their taxes in the UK.

We wont have another chance but hopefully step by step the damage will be undone.

It is crazy to think that Reform is leading the polls.

And now they’re crying “I wish I voted remain”

I didn’t get a say in Brexit, but I would’ve voted remain if I had the chance. Anyone with half a brain knew what a stupid idea it would be to leave.

Unfortunately a lot of people didn’t have half a brain. And a lot of them aren’t even here today to see how badly they fucked their kids and grandkids over

And still no proper investigation into Russian interference.

Brexit was so wild. A completely new frontier of political division was made that seemingly bisected all existing groups (except maybe Scotland vs everywhere else), creating immense upheaval and confusion and redefining all political going forward. All for… seemingly nothing?

Going through all that wasn’t inherently a ‘bad idea’ in itself, as long as it achieved something meaningful. But that was never going to happen. I understand why people were angry enough to vote for it (in a way), but the ferociousness with which they rejected being told they were getting conned was so strong.

The worst part is so many people responsible just fucked off with their money and faced no consequences. Fuck, Farage is now on his third smash-and-grab run and people still dont see what he really is.

All this effort, time, discomfort and change.

Such an incredible return on a tiny investment.

I was 25 when we voted to leave the EU (I voted to remain). Was 18 when the Con/Lib coalition took power. Just spent my entire adult life feeling completely alienated from the national politics and with no sense of anything positive being built. All the issues that underpinned the vote to leave are still there – poverty, inequality and ironically higher immigration levels then we saw pre-Brexit. I love my country but really struggle with the direction we’re heading.

Here in Ireland, to me it felt like an emotional punch.at the time but I see now that Britain is headed off on something even more fundamental than brexit. Brexit was only the separation. The cocaine and hookers stage of single life is only just beginning.

We didn’t really know Britain. We thought we were the same, but we are different. And that’s just the way it is. I am over blaming them.

I used to sign up to the “it was a big mistake” school. But now I think that Britain just isn’t able to be in any team unless it feels it’s a leading member. A post greatness status hangover that many other nations are going through.

I think Britain will feel better when it kicks the shit out of some other country. It will feel like itself again. Hopefully it can help kick the shit out of Russia when the time comes.
