kinda makes sense here , the person they employy to anser the phone costs more than the per use iT system , i believe legally they cant shut down the service ( could be wrong) so they just add a charge for it

Incredibly ageist to introduce a fee for speaking to someone on a phone.

Hasn’t there always been an admin fee for changes to insurance policies? Or am I making that up?

Aside from the elderly I’m pretty sure no one rings customer service unless they’ve already tried to do something online

An example of why this might be an issue

Recently needed to switch policy over to a new car and wanted to make sure the insurance was actually moved over.

Put in a request online – does it get sorted right away? You get a notification that your request has been logged but not that insurance has been updated.

Drive off in new car – get in accident. Find out policy wasnt moved across in time.

Its a rare example but not beyond the realms of possibility

My insurance company tried to charge me for an address change and I rejected it. I told them I was notifying them and they were required to keep their data up to date.

I confirmed there was no policy additional charge before that, it was just an “admin” fee.

I never signed and returned the letter they sent with the new policy asking for permission to charge me.

There was always an administrative fee for making policy changes over the phone

That’s pretty standard across the industry (and internationally)

This is them telling you that you can do it free yourself online. The free alternative is the news
