Deloitte and Grant Thornton are once again feasting on taxpayer money with their consultancy fees.

>With the conflict with bus services removed, the council decided to double the size of the plaza
So the original design hasn’t gone from 10m to 80m.
This is a whole new design double the size.

The renders seem extremely basic for the increase in costs. It just looks like a slab for a plaza without any features, or greenery or anything.

Well, they doubled the original scope, put in a 40% contingency fee and inflation is over +20% since 2017 when the plans were made. Not really a surprise that, even though 10 times more than the original is ….at least questionable. But they got to do something nice with this area, and at least on paper it is a big improvement.

What’s that in children’s hospitals?

They should increase the budget more. Then put a big bronze statue of Micheal Collins in the middle of it. Then a medium sized Roy Keane and Jack Charlton one somewhere. Maybe a small Mick McCarthy one in there somewhere too to keep all sides happy. Inclusionism or whatever you call it.

I don’t really see the issue with it costing €80mn for more or less the centrepiece of our capital city. The only knock I would have is that parts of areas like the north inner city could badly use investment like this also, which is something I had against the spending €6mn to do up the Grafton St area (which is already done up anyway), but this would be pretty transformative and justifies it in my opinion.

that seems fine no? like it’s larger, with a lot of years of intense inflation, for the middle of the city, ai hope they do it and it could be great

Would they not try and put a bit of green space or something imaginative with it? It just looks like a load of concrete.

I personally think it needs more bike sheds.

Just get on with it, and try and stop whichever gobshite whose job it is to litter the place with signs on poles.

That sounds unbelievably expensive for what is basically groundworks and paving
