Probably doing the whole order is a whole wardrobe and return what they don’t like or doing a wear and return

They deserve it, my youngest daughter would order hundreds of pounds worth of clothes in multiple sizes & colors just to try on take instagram pictures, then return 95% of the order.

    3. “Managing high volumes of returns simply isn’t a sustainable model,” retail expert Medi Parry-Williams says. “In many cases, a return fee of £3.95 doesn’t come close to covering these costs.”

“I’ve received ripped jeans and clothes with make-up on them before from Asos, so I know there are some people who abuse the policy – like they wear the clothes once, keep the labels on, then return them for a refund,” she says.

Doesn’t sound like they were checking them at all. Just repackaging and sending out again (in this scenario).

Managing returns is a massive cost for a business. They have to be sorted, checked, often repackaged etc.

Far too many people abuse the system.

I think I’m sympathetic but people really were taking the piss and as the article says returns aren’t free for the company. Fair play of the item is damaged but otherwise I understand.

I don’t buy clothes online that often because I need to try them on first.

Free returns aren’t free: they drive up prices for everyone and often the returned goods end up in landfill. Corporations moving away from the model is a good thing.

Climate Town did an excellent video on the subject: https://youtu.be/WG8idKaX9KI?si=g2IKpXQ39jNOI299

Shops can refuse to serve whoever they like for any reason which doesn’t breach the equality act.

Boo hoo. Why is it always plastic faced women with loads of make up who feature in articles about this sort of thing?

One day they will find a woman who is proud of her natural looks and I will actually have some sympathy.

Don’t abuse the returns policy and you won’t get banned

    10. ZebraSandwich4Lyf on

Don’t know why this is even news tbh, most stores will do this.

If you’re constantly returning stuff and you end up costing the business more money than you spend then you’ll get banned, you’re problematic and not worth doing business with.

yep my missus orders like 8 items in 3 different sizes and probably ends up keeping 2 at most. I always thought it won’t be long before retailers start cracking down on

Where there appears to be absolutely no standard in clothing sizing, the only way when shopping online, is to order multiple sizes to try on. Those that don’t fit go back, alternatively ASOS could open physical stores and not experience this issue.

I can guarantee not a single one of these accounts were profitable.

    14. Wannabe influencers furious they now have to pay money to appear rich.

They seem to think Asos is a service and not a business

“Oh right so you’re an online shop, with no physical stores where I can try on the clothes?

“Right! We save lots of money by not having physical stores, passing those savings on to you!”

“Ah gotcha. So I can try on the clothes at home and easily return things?

      “Absolutely not. Fuck off”

(Edit: no it’s not just serial abusers getting caught by this. I know friends/family who are well on average for ordering and returning things, but have had semi-threatening letters from various companies)

This is why physical clothes shops should always remain. I never buy clothes online but my girlfriend does and most she buys has to be returned because the sizes are so inconsistent.

At least with a physical shop you get to see it in person and try it on.

Business decides it doesn’t want unprofitable customers.

    19. biblicalcucumber on

Maybe consist sizing needs to be the focus point.
If stuff was the same size when it’s ordered to be the same size.. returns would lessen.

    20. planetrebellion on

I did this once when i was youger and still shopped fast fashion.

It needed a minimim for free delivery but had free returns so just bought something random to make up the difference and returned it as soon as it arrived.
