I’m waiting for my gas boiler to die and for the government to introduce better support for covering upfront purchasing and installation costs. Then I’m getting a heat pump.
I don’t have a car, but if I ever do get one it will be small and electric.

Solar panels keep getting better, and you can get 3 year old electric cars for like 8k as long you don’t want long range. Combine both and you can drive for pretty cheap.

But I was reliably told by the troll bots that EVs were dead and hydrogen was the future 🤔

The comments on any heat pump/EV article on the BBC are an absolute cesspit of people terrified of new technology

Install of my heatpump is finished today. Very exciting

I audit the people some people who install heat pumps…. All I hear from them is this is useless in a small environment, but millions is being spent anyway.
Can anyone that now has one confirm or deny this?

I’ve got a Tesla Model 3 this month. Absolutely amazing car, goes like shit off a shovel, does 300 miles per charge, incredible tech. Costs me £5-7 to fill up. I’ll never go back to ICE cars now.

It’s almost like they work and lots of folks are just scared of change.

It feels like such a minefield though – every week, dozens of installers and ads reminding us there’s grants, but every time you call one up, you end up getting robocalls, data scraping, and it puts you off for a month.
The last one I tried (a month ago?) said they can see on Google Maps that we live in a terrace, so “solar isn’t an option” and hung up on us. I mean, where do you even start to get reliable info? None of the trades we’ve had in over the past 5 years have anything good to say about heat pumps or solar, but just vomit up negativity and what sounds like unqualified luddism.
Or you go on YouTube and try to educate yourself, and end up caught in an indecision loop about what to do first (solar? batteries? heat pump?).
None of the dozens of companies I’ve approached so far have filled me with confidence that the whole thing isn’t a massive scam.

It’s a shame we don’t manufacture hardly any of these. In principle it’s good we are going green but I’m still wondering where all these green jobs are going to come from.

I’ll keep my gas heating and gas boiler until the lights go out.

I have an EV, which I’ve had for over three years. It’s still getting me 4 miles to the KW, no drop off in efficiency there.
I have had solar, with batteries installed and a heat pump for over 18 months. With the export price being so high I’m actually being paid for the months of May and June, overall we have halved our energy costs which includes all cooking, heating, hot water, household electricity and mileage in the car. Payback on all systems I estimate is 13 years. Solar is coming in at about 7 currently but expect that to improve with rising energy costs and therefore rising export rates.
