2 kinds of people defend Dublin against the pile of evidence that its a kip:

      1. Culchies who live in Dublin: They try so hard to fit in that they are pure poison. Apartment draped in Dublin GAA tat. Always jokes about culchies while never admitting to being one.

      2. The people who take pride in the grime and hate middle class people. like this journo: [https://www.independent.ie/opinion/luke-kelly-would-rather-be-paint-splashed-and-with-his-people-than-moved-to-some-antiseptic-middle-class-location/39312593.html](https://www.independent.ie/opinion/luke-kelly-would-rather-be-paint-splashed-and-with-his-people-than-moved-to-some-antiseptic-middle-class-location/39312593.html)

I was born in Dublin, left at 22. It’s always been a kip 😂 but I still love it.

Everyone on this sub loves piling on about how Dublin is a kip

I’ve done the hop on hop off bus in lots of cities around Europe. It is fantastic to see the city and to see over the walls to the buildings behind.

But when I did it in Dublin I was shocked at the dereliction and decay that was hidden behind the walls. Its like nothing I’ve seen in any other hop on hop off in any city around the world. There was an American couple on the bus with us at one point and they even commented on it.

City centres been a kip for as long as I can remember. It’s ugly as fuck and full of scumbags and beggers

It has always been a Kip, anytime we have people come visit us the missus is always like, “will we bring them up to Dublin”… Yeah sure we can, but then they can do their own thing, its a shithole…

The headline is just about one part of the article and more about Joe Duffy effect on thing s over the years. And he said Dublin City centre was getting bad years ago. I don’t disagree with him on this part.

But it goes into the highlights of his show: talking to prisoner, discovering women suffered during menopause, effect on bank and head shops.

I didn’t like his show but it helped some people, what disliked was he would highlight an issue and then that was it. It would be unfair to say his lived on misery but it was part of the diet.

Of course, it was never perfect. Dublin has always had visible poverty and dereliction, though late 80’s and throughout the 90’s onwards etc it felt as if it was beginning to turn a corner – there was the promise of hope and change, and at least some filial, community sense of working towards something like collective betterment. I don’t think anyone feels like that anymore.

I lived in D7 and worked in next to Connolly for years… always thought it was lovely. Housing was brutal but I liked Dublin. And I’m charmed by it anytime I’m back. Any friends from abroad who visit Dublin always say it’s lovely and ask why I left.
Apparently we’re in the minority here

This is one of his highlights? Says a lot about his service to the public.

    12. 😆 Dublin’s great. In ‘88. And now. It’s a city. Would yiz all ever relax.

It’s always been a kip, but it’s getting worse. It’s full of scumbags, scrotes and beggars (which I don’t blame the beggars most of them are fine). You have feral dragged up scumbags robbing motor cycles. Canada Goose scumbags harassing people. Open drug taking.

My dad says it was way worse in the 80s, buts absolutely gone downhill since 2019
