Watching similar things they would on t.v, the difference being they’re not glued to a sofa anymore. THE HORROR!

Probably because many people are watching videos on the phone whilst also watching TV at the same time….I’m guilty of this and it’s a bad habit.

It’s portable, you can change rooms, places… I turn my tv on only for some sports because of the big screen

Is this surprising? I can’t carry my TV around, I can carry my phone. When I’m out of my flat I’m exclusively using my phone

I stopped having a TV in the bedroom. Now I surf reddit

I very rarely watch TV, except occasionally sports, and then I watch it on my computer rather than on a TV set anyway.

Never owned a TV (as an adult, I watched my parents TV when I was a kid), never will. I have a desktop computer, don’t need one.
I am in my thirties for reference.

Can you blame them ? I mean, have you seen what’s on TV these days? It’s utter trash.

Does this absolve me from having an average 7 hours screen time a day 🙃

I stopped watching general TV because there’s nothing really entertaining on, and the ads are insufferable.
If I’m watching the TV, it’s either because I’m watching Youtube on it or I’m watching a TV series I’ve already seen on our Firestick, just as background noise (ie- the office) while I scroll through my phone.

Yep. Moved house recently and realized we don’t even care where the TVs are anymore.
Much has changed in recent decades. When I was a kid, getting a TV was an event like buying a car. People would congratulate you, neighbors would drop by for a look at the marvel. You needed several people to help you move it, and once it was done it was on quite a lot, with everyone sitting around it.
Then TVs got smaller and flatter, and people could have several in their house, so that you could watch different things. People still watched things on a schedule.
Now you can just watch whatever you want, whenever you want, on your phone, and maybe occasionally use a big TV for things that require that movie/sports experience.

I only watch shows on Netflix and Disney plus so having a TV or not doesn’t really affect me as I’ve got a tablet; that said I do prefer using a TV. It feels more social when with others, and I find I pay more attention to what I’m watching.

No problem in theory. It’s just that the stuff which the majority of people are doing and watching is utter trash, unfunny skits, fake AI and people being morons.
I do it, and I know its rotting my brain, yet its so easy to do.

I’m starting to get so sick of phones… particularly people that just never stop using them. I’d say older folks (boomers mostly) are somehow even worse with phone addiction.
My wife’s parents (retired at 65) are visiting for a week, and for some reason they get up at 6am, and pretty much play their phones at every moment till bed. I’d expected it’d be great to have them around to help look after our 4 year old, but they spend so much time on their phones it’s actually starting to deeply piss me off as they may a well not even be there.
I never knew it was even possible to play on a phone for this long… no idea wtf you can do on a phone for 10+ hours a day. If I was a grandparent I’d rather play with my granddaughter….

We’ve got square eyes, TV was our gateway.
It’s a form of escapism, reality is incredibly depressing.

A lot of people will chime in and say they do not watch TV, then you dig a little deeper and find out they just stream on their PC, tablet or phone, as if that is any different.

If by “Watching TV” they mean sitting on the sofa, watching live TV, then yeah, I haven’t done that in 15 years so of course I spend more time on my phone.

The wording is deliberately misleading. Many people watch TV (video) on phones.

The worst thing is that when you turn the TV on they are regurgitating free videos taken from social medias and giving the dumbest commentary. Also, by the time they get to screen that shit, I would have already watched it if it was worth watching.

I haven’t had a TV license since 2008. My “tv” has always been a big monitor for my video games and streaming the odd show or movie that seems interesting to me. But I haven’t really counted “watching tv” as part of my daily activities for decades now.

So they are looking at a different sized screen, plus a TV has become more like a computer and a phone has become more like a computer. Very interesting

I’m 30 years old. I can’t imagine anything more boring than watching TV. And that’s not me grandstanding that I’m better, if I’ve got spare time from parenting I’m either working out, getting some much wanted time on my PC or watching YouTube.

Not surprised as all tv is nowadays is never ending consecutive detective crime dramas. BBC is so good at making history shows when they can be arsed.
