I mean guys, it was pretty obvious that they couldn’t join for real the EU. Many people would have liked it, both in EU and in Canada, but it’s not feasible.

However having them closer it’s an added value and I’m happy it’s happening.

Recently, I saw a poll that said 44% of Canadians who participated, wanted to join the EU. While only 34% of those polled opposed the concept.

So it is not really a surprise that we aren’t going to join the EU. There simply isn’t enough support. Both here and in Europe. Even if it was 100% on both sides of the pond, it still wouldn’t happen.

Is that bad news for Canada? In my opinion, yes, it is. But is this a nation ending/threatening news/situation for Canada? No, I don’t think so.

Canada is not eligible to join the EU. Closer ties are always a good thing.

      Well, duh.

People forget that prior to Trump, Canada was poised to elect Pierre Poilievre -a man who pitched himself as the Canadian Trump- by a landslide. It’s the only country where “the Trump effect” actually worked.

The half of the country in between Toronto and Vancouver is a place where people have Tim Hortons in their hand and a Confederate flag on their truck, any serious attempt to join the EU would result in a freak-out that would make Brexit look tame.

The whole “Canada in the EU” thing, at least on that side of the Atlantic, was never a serious proposition outside of the Canadian equivalent of people with a lifetime subscription to The New Yorker.
