So there is actually no such thing as a free lunch? Go figure.

So is obesity and type 2 diabetes, I would imagine much more so….

The risks associated with obesity far outweigh the small risks of these side effects. Being obese puts you at higher risk of a plethora of diseases including cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia. The risk-reward ratio is still incredibly in your favour if you’re overweight and using a GLP-1 RA.

Does the success of all this stuff (for weight loss) just prove CICO does work, it’s just a matter of whether you stick to it or not? So you could effectively get the same benefit eating less (and keeping track of nutrition better which wegovy can’t do) without side effects.

181 cases, and 5 deaths, out of about a million users. Which is about 1 in 5500.

“There is no evidence that the drugs directly caused the deaths. And the evidence isn’t strong enough for the MHRA to restrict access.”

Pancreatitis is often caused by gallbladder disease, which can be caused by any rapid weight loss regardless of the method.

People taking these medications should be advised to ensure they still eat regularly and do not go for long periods without any food, to stay well hydrated and to seek medical attention if they develop any symptoms concerning for gallbladder or pancreas inflammation disease.

Yep, anyone with common sense knew this was going to happen.

      Fucking Sky…..

“There is no evidence that the drugs directly caused the deaths.”

OK, so why the fear-mongering headline? I tell you what does cause deaths, it’s obesity, heart disease, diabetes etc etc etc etc

It seems to be a small risk, I don’t know how comparable it is to other common medical treatments though.

It does bring out the finger wagging around this subject though. The people who think it’s somehow wrong to use these drugs and everyone should stick to a healthy diet. Looking around at the state of a lot of people, it’s obvious that isn’t working.

As the article says – this pancreatitis also happens anyway to heavy drinkers and may happen if you get gallstones. So – it’s hard to say if the new drugs caused this, or it’s just part of the treated-population’s natural diseases.

At least it’s being tracked. That’s the key, and things are being learned and more understood.

I have Type 2 diabetes, am overweight, have arthritis, and probable problems with arteries. In short I am walking time bomb. Diets have not worked, but the jabs have allowed me to lose 10kg in 6 weeks.

The risks are there, but the bigger risk is doing nothing.

Writin this article of scare mongering click bait.

      Absolute non-article

Have these people actually read the leaflet with literally any prescription medicine? They’d probably have a panic attack if they read the side effects for the immunosuppressants I have to take to manage my Crohn’s.

It’s so weird the different levels of stigmatism that overweight people face but *we just care about their health*

That’s all you need to see to realise this is scaremongering.

It is too early to determine the potential side effects, as NHS trials do not account for the use of this drug in conjunction with other substances or chemicals.

As far as we are aware, the combination of tirzepatide or semaglutide with an obscure medication could lead to significant harm; until a substantial sample size of cases is available, the outcomes remain uncertain.

I was on wegovy for a week, had the worst stomach pains and nausea so I stop. I’d say 4 months later I had my first real gallbladder attack and now km
Gallbladder free. I’m pretty sure it started with that weight loss shit.

    19. Impressive_Algae4493 on

Yeah, while no medication is 100% risk-free, the long-term damage from untreated obesity and diabetes is way scarier than these rare side effects.
