Il pilota irlandese F2 Alex Dunne sta guidando in FP1 per McLaren Tomorrow alle 12:30. Primo pilota irlandese coinvolto in un weekend di F1 da Eddie Irvine.

I’m actually so excited to see how he gets on. Having known about him since his British F4 title a few years ago, I’ve followed his career pretty closely.

I didn’t think he should step up to F2 this year, but clearly those in the know saw something in his F3 performances that warranted the move, and I’m glad to have been proved wrong. If he can polish his racecraft, he can absolutely go all the way.

The list of first year F2 champions is very exclusive, but also very successful in F1 – Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri, George Russell. Gabriel Bortoleto did it last year too (also ironically as a McLaren affiliated driver) and secured a seat with Sauber. I like him a lot and hope he starts to kick on as the season goes on, having already outqualified his teammate Nico Hulkenberg on a few occasions already (himself a GP2 champion in his debut season)
