Ho guardato questa mappa la scorsa settimana, c’è un motivo per cui più aerei preferiscono volare sopra la Georgia, che l’Armenia? Ci mancano gli accordi di transito con le compagnie aeree?

The route from Europe over the Black Sea is more direct than one passing over Armenia.

In our region, most commercial flights follow established airways that run from Europe across the Black Sea, through Georgia and Azerbaijan, and onward to Central Asia and beyond.

Routing through Armenia from the Black Sea is generally longer than simply flying through Georgia. Moreover, to reach Armenian airspace from the Turkish FIR over the Black Sea, aircraft must first pass through Georgian airspace. This makes the route not only less efficient but also more expensive, as overflight fees would apply for both Georgia and Armenia.

That said, some airlines still fly over Armenia for various reasons, including weather, air traffic congestion, scheduling, or specific routing requirements. Airlines rarely follow the absolute shortest path, and for long-haul flights—such as those lasting 12 hours—minor deviations are usually negligible in terms of time or fuel cost.

Flights from Southern Europe to Southern Asia do occasionally fly over Armenia, as the route can be more direct and allows aircraft to transition directly from Turkish FIR into Yerevan FIR. However, for flights from Northwestern Europe to Asia, the route through Georgia remains more direct and efficient.

If you know any flight simulation enthusiasts, they could probably show you screenshots of standard airways over the Black Sea and Turkish airspace to help visualize this.

I could also PM you screenshots from my planning app for the sim.

If you zoom out a little you will see that most European countries are located a little higher, so it makes more sense to fly over closer to Turkey and the Black Sea and then enter Georgia. also you want to be closer to airports in case of emergency.
