Looks like the German cockroach.
That’s a Waldschabe or Bernsteinschabe.
They usually wander in by accident through open windows or doors, especially at night when lights are on. They are not pests and don’t breed indoors.
Edit: Catch them with a glass and release them outside.
Keep windows closed in the evening or use insect screens.
Turn off or dim lights near windows.
Seal cracks and gaps around doors and windows.
It is called waldschaabe (Dusky cockroach). They are helpfull creatures eating plant waste and addictefd to light. They are NOT! harmfull. Next time :catch her and throw her out of a window. Most likely not a german roach but a amber wood cockroach (since you mentioned you have trees near you balcony). They became very common in southern Germany in recent years and are completely harmless. They cannot survive inside an apartment and are not pests.
It looks like an amber wood cockroach. Don’t panic – they are no pests unlike the German Cockroach. This one likely just got inside through an open window but would like to leave. So if you’d help it out it would surely appreciate. 😊
A little help to identify: Wood cockroaches have a transparent neck shield and are not afraid of light. German Cockroaches have two dark stipes on that neck shield and they shy away from light.
A forest cockroach (German: Waldschabe) is an insect from the cockroach family (Blattodea) that naturally lives in forests and other moist, shady environments. In Central Europe, various Ectobius species are common, such as:
• Ectobius sylvestris (Forest cockroach)
• Ectobius lapponicus
• Ectobius vittiventris (a common species also found in gardens)
Characteristics of forest cockroaches:
• Size: around 10–14 mm
• Color: yellowish-brown to light brown, often with a translucent shield behind the head
• Wings: Both males and females have wings and can fly short distances
• Behavior: Active during the day, flees when threatened, not afraid of light (unlike the German cockroach)
Feature Forest Cockroach
Habitat: Outdoors (forest, garden)
Diet: Plant material, dead leaves (including food waste)
Pest status: No
Reproduction indoors: No
Hygiene risk: None
Conclusion:
Forest cockroaches are not pests. They sometimes accidentally enter homes but usually die quickly indoors because they cannot reproduce and the conditions are unsuitable for them.
If you see a cockroach in your home, it’s important to identify it correctly—because a forest cockroach is harmless, while a German cockroach should be dealt with. If you’re unsure, you can take a photo or submit a specimen to an environmental or pest control agency for identification.

So… you think they spy on you or something?
