Just do it. It’s been revised a few times plus there’s been a rise in inflation since it was first announced. The longer they wait the more it costs. The new layout looks amazing so I hope they just commit and get started.

Why do the headlines never mention the redesign

Still need to be done

Temple bar square cost 5 million and didn’t need to divert tens of bus routes and is a much smaller area. Ofcourse this was never going to cost 10 million.

Is it really worth it? We could have 200 bike shelters for that

Less than 240 bike sheds. It’s a steal.

It seems a reasonable estimate for the new design but, I’m no expert. It amuses me that there are complaints online constantly about the “state of Dublin”. I now see complaints (on other fora) about money being spent to spruce the city up. I hope DCC can accelerate more of these types of projects.

I’d happily pay €80m just to see some pedestrianised plaza balloons.

I haven’t seen anyone really complaining about the cost of this, most just want it done.

It’s no longer the €10m project that was originally proposed 8 years ago.

What a clickbait headline. New project costs more than different much smaller project proposed ten years ago.

€10m originally……Are they having a laugh?
That sounds like the fake low estimate you give to try get approval to go ahead. The project is covering a fairly large area and there is no way even 20 years ago it would get done for €10m

Every bus I’ve ever taken goes down Dame or Nassau Street. How are the planning to deal with that? We should pedestrianise te M50 while we’re at it.

I thought: fuck me those are some expensive balloons.

Money well spent? Like we’re wasting billions on stupid shit. Don’t begrudge the 80 mill for something at least useful.

You can see the journalist desperately scrabbling around for something to be scandalised about.
Ultimately this is going to make a huge improvement to an iconic location in the city centre that has high levels of pedestrian and cycle traffic. Let’s get it done

Dumb fcuks… Spending their money like the well will never dry out.
There is no way the cost would go from 10 mil to 80 mil in a span of 10 years due to inflation and similar shit. Which means the original quote was bs
Why don’t these contracts have a clause that overages are the contractors problem? 10m got the winning bid for a reason
