A heatwave continues to grip large parts of Europe, with authorities in many countries issuing health warnings amid searing temperatures.
Southern Spain is the worst-affected region, with temperatures in the mid-40s Celsius recorded in Seville and neighbouring areas.
A new heat record for June of 46C was set on Saturday in the town of El Granado, according to Spain’s national weather service, which also said this month is on track to be the hottest June on record.
Red heat warnings are in force in parts of Portugal, Italy and Croatia, with numerous amber warnings covering areas of Spain, France, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Hungary, Serbia, Slovenia and Switzerland.
In Barcelona, a woman died after completing a shift as a road sweeper on Saturday, when temperatures were very high. Local authorities are investigating her death.

Strange how we could halt society during covid when the boomers were dying, but when the young are going to inherit a furnace we can only do the bare minimum.

It just won’t stop, what we witness here is simply the beginning. We will actually have to start planning if not already living underground, because this environment is not viable.

And still I keep having discussions with people who say “everything is normal, the climate has always changed, and whatever, I am not going to change my lifestyle anyway”.

Strangely here on Reddit people are quite aware of climate change and everything. Guess I’ll go argue on Facebook

How developed nations are not going *whole hog* into green tech is INSANE. How the masses are not demanding they do so is demoralizing.
We need to get hydro, wind, solar, tidal, geo-thermal, nuclear etc. whatever massively built to supply our energy needs and the replace fossil fuels. We need to stay cool and likely grow crops more in climate controlled areas (both in the short cooler seasons and in hotter *dead* season). We need to power to cool our homes and places of work. We need to power for every growing tech energy demands And of course we need THIS type of energy generation to get off fossil fuels.
Get green transit going inside cities and between cities. Tax the shit our of personal vehicles, especially LARGE american trucks. Congestion pricing in cities and out right ban personal vehicles in some areas. Make it so people do not feel the need to drive.
Tax the FUCK out of selfish rich travel. Why should a billionaire take a private jet for a 15m stop that pollutes up the wazoo, but every day people get shamed for using plastic straws?
