The political class in the U.K. has a terrible record of associating criticism of Israel’s occupational and expansionist policies in Gaza and the West Bank with antisemitism. Likely at the behest of the Zionist lobby and the United States.
This has done nothing but devalue true incidents of antisemitism which is obviously a problem and egregious when it happens.
Explicitly calling out the IDF is not antisemitic and is a shocking insult to many to try and badge this as such.
Hmm, maybe our politicians don’t like being reminded of looking in the mirror and finding themselves wanting.
Nothing says “underfunded and under-resourced” like spending time and money investigating someone chanting at a concert.
How is “Death the IDF” anti-semitic? They are a militant arm of the Israeli government. They’re not saying “death to jews” or even “death to Israel” but “Death to the IDF” a notoriously ruthless military arm. Wouldn’t be like saying “Death the Paras” if you were from say Derry in the 70s? Not “Death to the English” or “England” but the military force. Help me understand.

A punk band who’s whole thing is saying controversial political stuff said something mildly controversial at a festival known for left wing polemics. That seems like a truly insane thing for the police to investigate.

Regardless of sentiments toward the IDF (who I have no particular care for), isn’t the potential crime here just the act of incitement to violence/hatred? Doesn’t seem really relevant if its anti-semitic or not.

This is ridiculous, I understand that antisemitism a very serious issue and should be treated like the hate crime that it is, but when the IDF are committing war crimes against innocent and unarmed civilians, that is something that they should be criticised for!
This is no difference to the distraction politics that the Tories would use when they wanted to draw attention away from their many, many failings as a government. It’s shameful to say that criticising the IDF is antisemitism because that just trivialises actual instances of antisemitism.
I know their performances were bad because they’re terrible artists but to get the police involved is a bit harsh.

It seems the West is all too willing to sacrifice its own freedoms when it comes to Is_(it)rael. That said, he was wrong to make that comment. It generalized the entire IDF (can you believe it, there are innocent ones), instead of focusing on those individuals who openly post videos of themselves committing war crimes, such as burning homes in Gaza.
Glastonbury Festival has always been somewhat of a political platform, but fuck I’m glad I’m not there this year, so much virtue signalling and performance politics.

I get that Bob Vylan said river to the sea, death to the IDF, and I think it’s fucking ridiculous the uproar about it, but I watched Kneecaps gig and I honestly didn’t see them say anything more inflammatory than ‘Stop the genocide’ and ‘Free Palestine’

Oh how times have changed… Those on the left who think “death to the IDF” is OK have lost the moral authority they once had – because the left once knew words have meaning and there were things you don’t say. If “fuck the IDF” had been said there wouldn’t have been an issue, some would have grumbled I’m sure but they’d have been told to wind their necks in.
I wonder how many of those on the left who are OK with “death to the IDF” would be happy with a redneck band singing the same about gays, trans, non-whites etc.?
Edit: Please remember that Glastonbury was traditionally tied to the peace movement – CND and Greenpeace. Performers saying “stop the IDF”, “IDF out of Gaza”, “peace in Palestine” or “end the occupation” that’s fine, chanting “death to the IDF” is very much against the ethos of Glastonbury.
The only reason why this causes offence ( death to the IDF) is that someone is buying F-35 parts and other kit. The gang in Gaza are not buying anything.
