Interested in hearing opinions on this.

I think there would be a lot of outrage on here if this chap was a regular working class person.

    2. If this lad was a traveler the fact that both charges were dismissed wouldn’t matter a jot to this sub. He’d be a lifetime scumbag in their eyes.

The legal profession seem to be getting increasingly violent these days.

Over the last four years, I’ve had confrontations with three different groups of people trespassing on our land to “hunt.” One group were locals I’d already warned not to come back. The other two groups were strangers, sketchy types dressed in camouflage, clearly not from the area and from a particular cultural background. Each time, things got tense. You’d think simply catching them and asking them to leave would be enough, but no, they take offense and start getting aggressive. In each case the Gardai did nothing when I reported the incidents (I had car regs).

Why is this even a recurring issue? Because there’s a complete lack of enforcement. The Gardaí dismiss these incidents as “civil matters,” when they are plainly criminal trespass.

Just like the assault case in this story where charges are dropped due to Garda inaction, this is another example of how their complacency allows things to escalate. Every time they fail to act, it reinforces the idea that people can break the law without consequence. There are gangs of people going from farm to farm “hunting” and stealing anything that isn’t nailed down. Call the Gardai and you’re told it’s a civil matter. They eventually investigate it AFTER you get robbed blind.
