A nice idea, but they won’t even commit to meeting the CMATS deadline of the early 2030s for Luas Cork, never mind the supposedly vague accelerated timeline its supposed to be delivered under since they dropped the BRT plan.
Interesting to see no mention of Luas Lucan. It does mention issues with the Red line being at or over capacity, and the city side portion of proposed Luas Lucan could act as a reliever for it. The latest suggestion is to run it along the Grand Canal or so, terminating at or near Charlemont, which doesn’t really make sense unless you already have Metrolink in place. If you took the other option, to run it up Cork St and terminate it at Stephens Green South or so it could act as a bit of an express version of the red line to the city.

Every time I visit another major city I’m reminded of how behind Dublin is when it comes to public transport. This belongs in /r/noshitsherlock

Everything needs to be accelerated. It’s taken over 10 year to deliver bus lanes in Dublin. There is no ambition from this government.

We should rename it to Moille.

They should be, but they won’t be.
Now, the plan to hold a consultation to explore the possibility of convening a committee to study the option of conducting a study to evaluate the feasibility of planning to hold a meeting to consider the viability of creating a plan to accelerate the new Luas lines? Well, I guess we can move that to the morning instead of the afternoon, sure.

Could he at least have mocked up a map? I hate when engineers do this on presentations and just have slides of powerpoint text.
That all said a circular luas line would be great because demand could be increased with frequency in a way that is more difficult on a linear route.

What’s termed the orbital west line was all planned and ready to go in 2008. literally months away from breaking ground. It was called the west Link and was a sister project of the now Metro link. Much of the land for it is still undeveloped and shouldn’t be difficult to get it going.
