Thank God climate change doesn’t exist otherwise we would be in trouble. /s
Oh good – time for the BoE to punish homeowners and renters with higher interest rates.
It’s weird because when its cold it affects yields so they have to increase the price, when it’s hot it affects yields so they have to increase price, when its wet it affects yields and they have to increase the price and when it’s dry it affects yields and they have to increase the price but – climate change tho right?!
So, nobody better dare notice we’re getting the shaft, and nobody better ask any questions, or, you’re a …
Dun dun DUHHHH!!!!
DENIER!!!!!
The hot weather only just started. They couldn’t have been affected that quick. More scammy excuses for a good rip off.
Hot weather, crops hit, prices up.
Dry weather, crops hit, prices up.
Wet weather, crops hit, prices up.
It’d amazing how everything can put prices up, and when said event is over, prices never go down.
Things get smaller, more expensive then due to lower sales they change the recipes to save money and we end up with a much worse product.
At least those shareholder returns though, I’m glad my mars bar was two bites long so they could stash the money away from the economy
Why is it we never hear “Hot weather causing tax bands to be reduced!”
Any farmers here? I grow. Veg and honestly my harvest this year has been spectacular so far.
Any excuse to put the prices up. The Farmers & suppliers are already trading on very small profit margins.
The retailers make the most of the profit on an item. They should have plenty of wriggle room.
I wonder why we can leave hydroponics at scale given this is happening more and more frequently
Just another excuse to rip people off and line their pockets, good thing the sheep will all believe this
Always an excuse to put prices up, never a reason for them to come down.
Not 3 weeks ago the news was telling me about all these massive bumper crops like strawberries and tomatoes for example. Did prices come down? No, no they did not.
Are we getting mugged off here or what? We’ve had a couple of weeks of sunshine and it’s not like we ran out of water. Have they even heard of irrigation? They are supposed to be farmers after all. I don’t seem to remember getting these warnings more than 5 years ago no matter what weather streak we had unless it was something that lasted months on end like no rain.
So when the weather is perfect for growing crops, we’re going to get a discount, right?
Complete bollocks, harvests are sold via futures trading so anything grown this year was already sold last year at an agreed price. It might affect prices going into next year, but that shouldn’t be news yet.
In watching clarksons farm it would seem that the standard weather for the uk is fundamentally broken already. Flood followed by droughts are standard now.
Even if true they find any excuse to raise prices anyway so I partly dont believe UK retailers
Nope, retailers are putting the price up to increase profits.
Probably best if the UK leaves the EU so that we are at the back of the queue for everything and can not use any influence to make changes if we are starving.
Just incidentally, reading through the comments. Brexit is hardly mentioned and yet is the single biggest influence on food prices in the UK. The UK has cut itself off from its food supplies and now refuses to even notice. What a strange world.
Nah nah nah not listening from an entire nation.
