Phew we found where we can spend the surplus. Close call, for a second I thought we might build infrastructure.
While the fines bit is nonsense and has been extensively covered already, we are not going to hit our targets unless our agriculture sector sorts its shit out. Literally.
No country is going to hit their targets. These fines are going to go out the window. Especially with security concerns in Europe.
Target to reduce emissions by 51% by 2030, but last year they were down just 12%.
So they have signed up to the impossible with our hard earned taxes. We’re going to give away the equivalent of ten overpriced hospitals because we refuse to live like it’s the blitz again.
The low hanging fruit is gone now comes the penury.
This whole project is not going to wash politically. Technology is going to have to solve this or is going to get very nasty.
This is going to drive Euroscepticism. “We’re sending €26 BILLION to Brussels. Shouldn’t we be spending it on our HSE instead?” Time to scrap this crazy scheme before it drives us out of the EU.
I will probably get down voted for this. Cant we opt out of these climate agreements and use the money that would have been paid in fines to Upgrade more housing with solar and energy efficient insulation. Plant more Native forests and help converse wildlife and bio diversity.
A couple of large protected Nature reserves and Sea Reserves where No fishing is permitted allowing fish stocks to recover.
Energy including electricity continues to be the exception, with sustained reductions in line with targets.
How much of this is due to importing energy that isn’t counted in our emission figures, eg electricity bought in from Britain?
Euro bonds solidarity to pay for NATO expansionism. Starmer talking about war readiness and the invasion of the homeland. Anxiety at the heart of Europe that Putin is going to invade Western Europe. Irish government calling for military upgrades. 25 billion for Brussels and we think it’s a good idea to decimate our agricultural issue to satisfy EU environmental indulgences.
In a time of geopolitical uncertainty does it not make more sense to secure the safety of our food and energy systems not be creating further insecurity.
You should see the fines we are paying due to not meeting EV targets for 2020
