It solves the e-bike problem, the illegal migrant problem, the lot.
There is no benefit to Britain from these apps, they don’t even pay much tax.

If I were PM I’d give the CEO’s for these companies a fat wod of cash to shut these apps down and retire into the sunset

This is one of those issues where if the government took 2 minutes actually looking at the outside world they could fix something. Think how many part time jobs could be created for young people if these companies stopped hiring immigrants. Everyone knows what these companies are doing except the government apparently

Not to side with deliveroo or just eat eat, but why the fuck do we have illegal electric bikes? I mean, why are we making one of the best solutions to our traffic and pollution problems illegal?
Can we just accept that both these bikes and electric scooters exist and just allow them on the street as normal goddamn traffic as long as they follow the traffic rules. Just like we allow push bikes… It’s such a pile of bullshit that E scooters are only legal when they are rented and driven on the pedestrian paths.
Same for the “illegal” electric bikes. If I have to pretend to pedal it’s all perfectly fine, but the moment one stops pedalling for a second and the bike carries on, it’s suddenly super illegal…
Like I get it that idiots are using these dangerously. But why are we surprised the idiots are using them when we effectively banned reasonable people from using them with our stupid laws.

Just like having a right-to-work is a condition of working with Deliveroo, right? In reality its your business model.

In most of the rest of the world, these ebikes are perfectly legal and used by millions to get to work in a far more efficient and eco-friendly way than going by car. I just can’t fathom how we can’t legalize them for use in the UK and stop trying to enforce some law on ‘illegal bikes’ that the rest of the world has long since moved on from.

How about the The Police do a job of policing illegal e bikes in real time?

Simple, fine the company for every single illegal bike and worker, £100,000/breach to motivate them

This while situation comes from a loophole that allows these companies to class its workforce as self-employed contractors instead of employees with rights and accompanying tax bills.
Part of the hmrc test for whether you are employed or a contractor is whether you are able to send someone else in your place to do the work required.
Yet another example of companies dodging taxes that has a ripple effect in society.
