End to End to End Encryption. It’s what Russia wants.

There’s only two types of encryption : bullet proof and unencrypted.
Anything less than absolutely unbreakable is just open with some extra annoyances thrown in. Once a backdoor exists we might as well be unencrypted.

Lovely title. I had to read it a few times.

There is no way to bring end to end encryption to and end. You can make offering end to end encryption illegal so that app developers can’t offer it as an automatic feature, sure. But end users will always be able to use end to end encryption on their own coms. That’s never going to end.

Backdoors to encryption technologies, or to secure messaging apps is going to be amazing for all sorts of foreign intelligence agencies. If you think the US or China knows much about Europeans now, just wait until they can casually decrypt 100% of our messages.

how are we going to have secure banking if we don’t have end to end encryption?

There is no way to make secure encryption with a central key.
Everyone knows this, thats why you will pass no IT security audit if you share private keys across systems.
However, the EU cares more about mass surveillance than actual security.

Europe, seeking to secure the data of its citizens and institutions, adopted strong encryption. This means data is truly protected, even inaccessible to European governments themselves, which is ideal, as that is precisely the purpose of real encryption: privacy and security against unauthorized access. However, European law enforcement agencies are now struggling to access this data during investigations and, as a result, want to weaken encryption or create ways to bypass it (backdoors). The major problem is that if this move succeeds and encryption is weakened, it won’t just be European police who gain easier access. The very countries Europe considers adversaries or competitors, such as Russia, China, and even the United States (remember, Edward Snowden’s leaks revealed that the NSA spied even on allies, which was a major impetus for Europe’s adoption of strong encryption in the past), will also find it much easier to access sensitive European citizen and institutional data. In short, the message is clear: if you want real privacy and security against intruders and spies, you need strong, untouchable encryption. If you weaken encryption to make access easier for yourself, you automatically make it easier for all your enemies too, allowing them to use Europeans’ data against them.
I see these kinds of measures and ideas as something… done by younger people!! Who don’t understand why things from the past exist… and then it seems they enjoy creating chaos and acting like the only ones who truly get it… but in reality… they’re just dismantling what’s secure in the name of security!! But they’re being hypocritical and not very smart. Criminalizing end-to-end encryption is stripping security away from European citizens!! Anyone who understands, and anyone who’s truly a criminal… would always use end-to-end encryption anyway!! Simple.
