This monumental landmark should never be taken down

No. Borders exist in the Schengen Area. You can cross without having the need to show documentation at actual, official border crossings. Not anywhere on the border you want. Entering a Schengen Area member from another Schengen Area member at a random point at their borders is still illegal.

We should never forget about this border which separated us for so many years

      Never forget

    4. And how the drunks from Vama Veche will know where to stop and not drink in another country, heh?

I’m not there so can’t confirm 100%, however I would say it’s very unlikely.

Schengen doesn’t mean “no borders”, it just means abolishing systematic controls at internal borders. You are still not allowed to cross borders via fields, forests or beaches. You are only allowed to cross via official, numbered roads. The border police still patrols the border with cars, boats, ATVs and drones just like before. You will still see them near the area where the border stations used to be. I crossed the border (with Hungary, since I live in the West of Romania) many times since January and there’s always border police near the border, not only at big borders like A1/M43 or A3/M4, but also on secondary roads that never had checkpoints and were blocked with concrete barriers before Schengen.

A lot of people think Schengen is like that famous border between Netherlands and Belgium that runs through people’s houses and shit. IRL that’s a very special case, it’s a bunch of Belgian exclaves completely surrounded by the Netherlands and there were never any systematic controls there, so it has nothing to do with Schengen.

Nah.. it will remain. All the borders are still there just not maintained as the were back in the day.

This should be preserved as a national (international?) heritage monument.

Are you crazy!? That would take years of planning and an absurd EU-funded budget!

    9. Just as many cities around the world have a piece of the Berlin Wall, I, too, have jeans hanging in my closet to commemorate this now-defunct frontier.

This great piece of architecture should remain as a historic landmark similar to the Brandenburg gate

There’s no Schengen area anymore as Germany introduced inner border control

Would require they build an European walking bridge over it.

    13. And how do you suggest they remove it ? Short of bunker buster bombs, I can’t think of anything that could possibly make a dent on such a structure.

Its there to stay for centuries to come unless we come up with some exotic technology.

      We never know…

Apparently both countries use child labour to build castles and fortifications on either side of that wall which are repeatedly washed away by the sea.

Fellow Romanian brothers and sisters, we need to preserve such unique historical cultural sites, not destroy them!

I like to think that that coast is actually a huge oceanin one seen from above with birdeye view, and that those sticks and jeans are actually gigantic.

This is not a border, this is a modern art exhibition. In fact, this should be preserved and marked as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    18. “Look, we spent 1.5 billion € to secure the border, we’ve reached the 5% defense expenses”

Now thats a wall, you guys mind helping us improve our own?

I always enjoy seeing photos astronauts take of this border from the international space station
